Trey Mooney discussion

Having players actually awake and aware supporting the ball carrier makes for massive change after the past few years

Don’t care what position they play but it’s nice to have someone make break and now have players pushing in support rather than down the other end of the field. Same goes for being awake for offloads, there’s actually people there now expecting the ball. Actually playing footy, crazy

He’s coming along nicely. I don’t think he ever will be the number one prop in the team but he offers something different with his offloads and support play.

I thought his game v the Dragons was his best game for us, after his game the week previous v Rabbits. And was very surprised to see him find that level of performance in back to back games.

Then he comes out and does that, today. Wow. Aggressive, physical and high energy in defence. And even better with the ball in hand. I thought today was his best game yet.

If this is his new normal, we have a $900k middle forward on our hands.

From all the reports I was confident we got a got one when we got him. He will still have games where he might struggle a bit, against stronger packs, but he is only 24 and this is his first year in FG. The upside is massive. He can produce performances like the last 3 games we are in for a big year with him and Jsaf leading from the front.

Mooney only needed time and games at NRL level. He still has a heap of improvement in him yet. Love watching Trey play.

You don't see it as much these days, but a lot of forwards need game time to get match fit.

I read an article explaining why years ago and it basically said they need to have adrenaline driving them to go beyond there limits to improve, and that only really happens when they are in an actual sporting contest. Training isn't the same thing.

The Safs were dreadful with that when they were young. It took 5 or 6 weeks into the season before they had any sort of fitness.

Anyway, it's not unusual for young forwards to get fitter and fitter the more they play.
