The medical retirement of Will Sullivan has opened the door for Tyson Frizell to possibly get another year after that door previously seemed closed. Will come down to money.

Sandon Smith had calf rightness at training before succumbing to it during the game. Toohey says it comes at a bad time with him being a starter while Bradman is out, and when he returns he’ll be competing with Harrison Graham for the bench hooker role which is a competition Graham is winning so far.

Toohey says it’s a matter of when Toby Winter debuts, not if.

Jersey Flegg winger Sosaia Latu has been told he's free to leave despite being signed until the end of 2028. He signed a 4-year deal just before O’Sullivan came on board so not shocking that he favours other options. Harold Matts outside back Benji Thompson has signed a new multi-year deal despite interest from rivals.

POS is a genius if he can re-sign Lucas, Best, Saf, Friz and Dom before the end of the season.

“Everyone” is disingenuous.

As someone who was all for the move, and even all for him at halfback until we signed Smith, who in the hell is putting Brown in the top 5 of the Dally M, I think he has been great and it’s been impressive how fast he has been able to settle in with a new team, players and style but those aren’t things you vote on for Dally M.

I know the Dally M is a pure joke nowadays but surely it hasn’t gone that far down
 
Brown was sitting on like 8 Dally M points when voting went private. He’s nowhere near the top 5. I’d add that he’s not the type of player who’s likely to ever win it but neither was Lockyer.

That’s what I think they are worth. 3.2mil.
That’s what I think these players will want. Weather we can afford these amounts?
 
O'Sullivan did try to re-sign De Courcey in fairness but yes there’s a lot of turnover with the young outside backs, even with Seve and Winter coming in. Latu was going to be in the development squad next year and I wouldn’t be surprised if Mel Nonu has leapfrogged him for that spot. Aidan Gow is the other one possibly in the frame though he hasn’t been able to stay on the field for the last 12 months.

I do rate Latu though and reckon he’ll end up being good somewhere. Good athlete and good motor.

If we had 3.2 to spend on these blokes I’d be pinching 50 from Lucas and Friz and giving it to Dom. I think keeping him with Greg playing the way they are is key. And I wouldn’t be against Dom being on 600, 550 defo fair.
 
I get “leaving it to my agent” is the scapegoat answer of “I don’t want to talk about it”.

Makes me curious in this situation we have Lucas who seems a pretty humble down to earth guy and you’ve got agent Moses, who some may allege is not.

Curious how this plays out.

I think we would put a competitive offer to Lucas.
But, I think he could get more elsewhere.

I’m assuming the decision comes back to Lucas right? “We’ve got 750 on table from Knights and 900 from Club X”.

Like they don’t actually leave it all to their agent right? Haha.

Yes I sure they a competent, lol. I’m just wondering if they can actually do deals based off that? Is it guarantee? So in Lucus’s case his current contract is end of 27. So do they negotiate based on the 28 salary cap increase? That’s what I’m asking.

900K seems a stretch for Lucus that would make him the highest paid back rower in the comp. But again getting back to question about the salary cap.

Maybe deals are getting done on possibilities? If the cap increases to x amount you will get this. If it remains the same you will get this amount.

Regardless of the new TV deal that is done, it all comes down to what the Collective Agreement with the RLPA says, I think. That expires end of 2027 and hasn’t been renewed yet, as far as I know. So nothing set in stone, I don’t think. But happy to be corrected!

Yeah it was said that Brown’s deal increased as a percentage of the cap, up to a certain amount. So I’m sure that’s common for deals that go past 2027 at the moment.

Interesting.

I’d assume the NRL has floated the larger cap to clubs as likely. I think most clubs have been negotiating in good faith of an increase.

I think a few players have “ratchet” clauses that would rise with an increase (their contract is a %). Whereas some clubs are negotiating fixed price and hoping the cap increase makes it a bargain by the time it rolls around.

And yeh, 900k is a bit expensive for him, was mostly using the figure to illustrate my point. But I do think there would be some desperate clubs willing to offer more than us.
 
AFL TV deal broke records apparently, with 2 new teams opening up a new time zone with WA surely we have some great leverage especially with Pete threatening to go to 7 and 10 - won't happen.
