By the end of the year the Storm will probably be way ahead but at the moment the Storm and Souths are sitting on the same number of wins. That’s with Souths having a far worse team and a horrendous run of injuries.

I don’t really but the whole Bennett needs a team of stars because every coach needs good players. In the last 20 years, Bellamy has still had consistently the best team, particularly the best spines in the comp. We’ve never seen Bellamy with a poor team or even an average team.

Wayne did manage to get a pretty average Knights team to a prelim. Nobody else has got that far.

Yeah but I think given the year Luai had last year quite a few clubs would’ve coughed up a million for him. He’s won 4 comps and Origin series as well. We’re paying more for a 6 that hasn’t done anything yet.

Originally they only paid $600k for Api, the same we were paying Brailey. They’re also probably paying less for May then we are for JSaf

Yeah hes weird I never rated him at the Panthers till last year when he stepped up in Clearys absence. But now he’s back to doing that stupid hop and shuffle back infield l(wtf is that) every time he gets the ball.

If Benji can get him to knock that off and pass the ball to his outside men would help.
 
It kind of reminds me of something Thurston used to do, but Thurston was kind of 1 of 1, he did so much stuff that only worked for him. You wouldn't know the point of what he was doing until he'd put someone over for a try. With Luai, I don't think there is a point most of the time.

Didn’t Brown finish with more try assists than Luai in the year Luai and Brown switched to 7s? Same as line break assists? Without looking at stats.

To me that’s part of the Knights problem. Since it’s not a desirable location, we need to have a coach that can attract players. Can’t afford to have a coach everybody thinks is a joke and be a regional team as well. One of those things you can’t change, the other you can.

Definitely agree in part. I’m not so sure it would have been easy to recruit to the Dolphins tough and it did appear difficult for them. Wayne Bennett being involved definitely would have helped but the last new venture the Titans in a similar area has been a complete bust. I imagine a lot of players would have been apprehensive. POS did extremely well building the roster from scratch, especially the way he kept going when they were getting rejection after rejection. When he kept missing out on targets he didn’t panic and just sign anyone, they stayed to the plan. That’s why I’m not too worried about missing some targets, there will be others.

No idea, I think Brown is definitely a better player than Luai but in terms of career achievements Luai does have him beat. I was just arguing that I don’t think the Tigers can be faulted too much for paying what they did given his track record.
 
Yeah, if it wasn’t for the Panthers premierships (which to be honest would have happened with or without Luai) most people would think 1.2 mill for Luai was even crazier than 1.3 for Brown.

I like the signing, his a quality player whos along way from his ceiling, and will be on our payroll through his best years, The money is only going to hurt us for the first 2 yrs imo with cap increases. I
Would be even happier if we had ponga in the shop window and bought a top 7 with his money.

Not contending otherwise. Just making the observation that the narrative coming from the club isn't aligned with the reality of our recruitment and retention strategy, at least it doesn't appear to be.

Other than Brown, he's not forking out for marquee players. He's been building the juniors though. In a couple of years, we'll have a solid core of young players which might be attractive for AOB's successor. I think he'd have known all of this early and has always been planning for life after AOB.
 
Tbf, if we can all come to terms with the fact that Ponga won't be part of our push for a premiership, we're otherwise in an an OK position.

Good juniors. Club is rich. We've got POS building a roster. In 2 or 3 years we should be pretty competitive and well positioned to improve year on year.

Cap has gone up 30% in the last 5 years, let's say that happens again for arguments sake. Brown on his deal bumped to the apparent max value of 1.4m then discounted by 30% is still a million dollar player in today's terms.

If AOB is still here, this is what will happen. He will coach the good out of Brown rather than coaching any good into him.

Exactly. Going to be coming into a beaten up club that the media love piling in on. An awful coach who has no clue. And no forward pack. I’m not sure a genuine world class half would pick us up.

Says Paul Bryan is out for the rest of the year, but will get an offer for next year.

Says club is still working on signing Dom before the transfer cutoff and wants 2 more years as part of the contract.

Says we aren't in the market for Sandon Smith, Sexton or any other established half - Dylan Brown is it for halves signings.

Says Marzhew should be back next week but JSaf and Best are targeting June 21 game v Dolphins.
