Great to see they’re keeping expectations pathetically low.

Souths have had a much worse injury run this year, they lost their best player for the year before the season even started, a rookie halfback, yet they’ve won double the games.

However, for some reason we can’t be expected to beat the Titans, Tigers and Eels.
 
This has the feel of Brown all over again, Brown(Obi) will work with what he has while(Mooney) O'Sullivan builds a competitive roster.
 
Hopefully, the difference is that POS has a track record of doing this successfully, and he's signed for the long haul. Obi has also had more success than Brown as a coach, so that's also a positive.

IDK why anyone would be down on POS. Take out the contentious signing of Dylan Brown (which I don't believe is actually that contentious, but time will tell) and do any of us disagree with his other moves?

He tried to keep Leo and KPP but refused to pay silly money, he's clearing out the deadwood on the roster and isn't feeling pressured into paying overs for journeymen, he's signed a bunch of young talent to build and develop with, he's extended Newcastle boys on reasonable coin so we can develop the depth that other clubs take for granted.

Do we know anything other than patience?

Im resigned to the fact that we're now the subjects of a psyopp campaign whereby the club is clearly undergoing a systemic rebuild, but is driving the opposite narrative pretending, however transparently false, that we're pushing for a Premiership window.

'Not paying overs' sounds great but it'll mean it'll take us at least twice as long to assemble the roster we seek

I totally get this and am feeling pretty over it myself.

I do have to laugh when I see that the solution is not overpaying players to come here ... that's been the solution for quite a while, and nobody's been able to make it work yet. Add to that we just handed out the most expensive contract in the history of the game.

Can only hope that with the AOB years being an upgrade over the Brown years, hopefully new coach/AOB2 years are an upgrade again.

But the roster to me is our absolute number one problem, and has been for a very, very long time.

I think the length is crazy, but I can’t wait to have him next year. The fundamentals in his game I think are really good. His a running threat and can tackle. Kicking game is a concern but you can compete with an average long kicking game.

The thing that I like most is how direct he plays. We lack that so much, when Gamble plays well he can dig into the line but he doesn’t really have any threat to the defence. Brown is strong and quick so he can beat a lazy defender and hopefully his directness will lead to some more space to our other strike players.

Paying overs means the roster you put together so quickly isn't really the roster you seek, then you're perpetually treading water between being a mid table team and a **** team.

Meh. I've been through all of them too, and tbh none of them had much chance of success. Can't run an NRL club on chook raffles or Tinkler Bucks *

So happy to put a line through all of them, the only one that's particularly egregious was the last one because it was clearly smoke and mirrors. I wasn't alone in being worried about how much we were paying to keep the Safs, given their production, and an indicator that something was really wrong was how desperate we all were for the signings of KPP and Pryce to come to something.

I can't give guarantees or predict the future. But I am a big believer in dealing with the situation as it is, we need a rebuild, hopefully Wests have learned some lessons and have the right people in place to do that job...well mostly *throws shade at AOB*.


* Which look like real bucks but aren't worth anything...

The difference though is we have POS who is regarded as the best in the game.

If he can't build us a successful roster then seriously the club is a basket case and will forever be cellar dwellers.

Yep , been against it from the start . So at least I haven't changed my tune . When I criticised how he was going early in the years people were saying he is playing in a **** team wait till he gets here 😳. I still don't think he knows what he is getting into . Starting to actually feel a bit sorry for him now . Going to be under the microscope on & off the field .As well as the money part of the sell would have been playing with Ponga . One way or another I think we have to lose Ponga strengthen squad . Will just intensify pressure on Brown as the main man . Media will have a field day .We are screwed whatever happens .

Of equal importance to the recruitment and retention of POS’ role, there obviously needs to be a really good investigation into the Knights player’s culture. It is obvious from reliable first hand reports of players seen out and about at various venues “off their faces”, plus players who have left discussing the “distractions “ presented outside of playing in Newcastle.
Maybe that’s also a contributing factor in attracting players here atm, combined with what seems to be turning a blind eye to that by the club?
I hope these off field issues can be dealt with equal energy and urgency going forward.
At present we seem to be a place where over paid, under performing players come to retire.
From a fan’s point of view, we are being taken for a ride as mugs who turn up no matter how embarrassing bad our team is playing.
As has been stated on this forum on many occasions, currently we are the joke of the NRL. The only way is up.
Sometime soon, the paying fans will say enough is enough.

It doesn't matter either way. He's signed, will be at the club long term and hasn't kicked a ball in anger in the red & blue.

We're going to have an elite player during the prime of his career for (and I'll eat my hat if I'm wrong) at what is looking like a typical price for an elite player over most of his contract.

We can all see that next year (or the next couple of years) will be tough until we develop this forward pack, but I say we get on board with the long-term vision.

I really can't see the point in negging the guy for accepting the deal because he's our Dylan Brown from next year, no matter what. And really, a talented guy who is all about family and wants to commit long term to Newy...are all good things for the club.

I know a lot of unrealistic guys on here are expecting Dyl to hit the ground running and be one of the best 7s in the comp because of the money, and he will be hounded if he has bad games (which he will)

But realistically I’m actually going to reserve judgement for 3-4 years, Moses copped a lot of crap when he was switching and at first people were right but after about 3 years he learned the position and now is great, so I’m expecting roughly the same timeline.

So yeah Its more a long term project rather than a quick fix, people won’t like that but it is what it is.

Certainly not helping that Ryles refuses to use his as a 7 and makes him play second fiddle to rookies, doesn’t want him to get to much experience to help a rival.

I just hope he is given an opportunity to play to his natural gifts and doesn’t have that flogged out of him.
Please let him play what is in front of him and don’t screw him up.
