Toohey's News

Marzhew, mid 20s only just reaching his potential. I'd be cautious about upgrading him early. He needs as much incentive (tough love) as we can give him.

Hes half as likely to cruise if the terms suit him.

This could become an issue.
Hopefully he sticks by the club that showed faith in him.
I kind of think he will, he has been here quiet a while we have showed faith in him and he has found his position and form here and he probably knows Braileys career could end next injury.

Being part of a winning team should help to.

Flanagan was effusive in his praise of Crossland when he was commentating one of our games a few weeks ago, wouldn’t be surprised if he has a crack at bringing him to the Dragons. Would honestly prefer to sound out if he’d be interested in a reunion with Brailey. Save a few hundred thousand and back Crossland to keep it up with Jones & potentially Brown behind him.

I'd go with this

Brailey has 2024 and 25 to go, injury allowing, extend Crossland for that time, he should then be at his peak, see how they are going and by that time Jones is developing meaning we will be fairly strong at 9 for a few years.

Michael Hagan gives O'Brien the kiss of death, saying he should be re-signed and take his record as our longest serving coach.

Ponga has had 2 cortisone injections and is doing everything he can to get right. He is in high spirits and there is no suggestion he won't play, albeit heavily strapped and needled.

Someone at the Knights didn't think we were making the finals because they have locked in our presentation night for Tuesday next week and it can't be changed. The firstgrade team will be in the middle of preparations for our most important game for years, so probably won't be able to drink and will have to go home early.

Buderus backs Crossland for Kiwi selection. Crossland is being considered as a bench utility and Leo Thompson and Greg Mazhew are also being considered for the Kiwi squad.

Brodie Jones has signed a 1 year deal. He praises Brian McDermott for improving his middle defence.

A plan is being put together to send Brailey to the US for specilized treatment for his knee injury at considerable expense for the club.

We are looking for a new pathways director because Dobson wants to join the coaching staff (I think it was reported before that he wants to take over from Monaghan as reserve grade coach).

Grant Anderson is being considered as a cheap outside back signing.

Doesn't actually report that Anderson is being considered - Toohey just thinks he should be because he's a local. Same with the 3 being "considered" for NZ as well although common sense would say they all would be in the frame.

On Anderson - the only time he has looked even competent in the NRL was last week in what was a glorified reserve grade game. Been laughably bad at times. I'd hope we have higher aspirations even as a backup.

Yeah Tom Jenkins is comfortably a better pickup on sweet FA for mine. Got work to do but he’s already a genuine try scorer, so that’s one important box ticked.
