Toohey's News

Toohey's news today - Ross may need another groin operation and may look at medical retirement if the specialist says it can't be fixed.
Chris Randall may be the biggest improver of the off season and had a good game at 5/8 for reserve grade.
Moga only 4 or 5 touches and 4 or 5 tackles in 30 minutes - will need another run in reserves.

Ross being medically retired would be a win-win. It'd free up a few bucks and roster spot for an opportunistic signing or promotion of another young guy to the top grade roster earlier in the season if needed.

It'd also be a fitting golden handshake for Ross who despite his recent struggles (and public whinging) was still a solid player for us over a few tough seasons.

I'd hope Hunt's spot would be his to lose if we keep winning, be nice for Moga to have 5-6 weeks in NSW cup to get the confidence up as well.

Basically one of the first things I noticed towards the end of the match but was wondering whether people thought it was more a team effort that made the players look good but he didn’t allow much there himself either or get beaten by his opposing man

As soon as I heard Rossy was going to stick to his deal and fight for his spot at the Knights I knew he'd regret it, poor bugger has some injuries now too, highly unlikely he'll get another gig, best case is medical retirement now

We did have some cover coming across. I would say one of the three was likely to be scored. Still, better if the front line is making those tackles.

That's the big difference with denying the opposition field position. Suspect edge defence in mid-field only leads to a half break, instead of a guaranteed try. Not having the other team camped inside our 20 is going to make everyone look better and life much easier.

It doesn't matter how we do it. As long as everyone stops the tries from being scored the job is done. Talk and cover inside is all they need to get 100%

If this is true I believe it's one of the reasons the Knights lose so much young talent. They normally fail to identify them in the first place, but when they do they pick players out of position rather than give a young player a crack in their preferred position. It's easy to see why young talent moves on when this happens. Why would you hang around when you are not even considered an option in your own position and a fringe backrower is considered a better option?

Why can other clubs take a gamble with young 19/20 year olds but we seem unable to?

Its Sione. He has to get a spot in the the squad somewhere.

Next week he will be at fullback, with Ponga back in the halves, Watson on the bench and Mann at hooker.
