Toohey's News

I think Obi really sees 13 as Watson and Mann's best position and he'll be starting one with the other at 14 and give us great flexibility in this day and age of injury carnage during a game.
Having flexibility in the squad these days seems like a good thing, just look at Raiders last night, Charnze went down and Raiders were shot, Rapana isn't a fullbacks ahole. As long as they fill that 13 and 14, neither should be a starting half unless there's injuries and as long as they are not after too much money, otherwise we could get more value elsewhere.

That is fine as long as we went paying them 400-500k each.

Ready to be torn to shreds for this but if Dane was happy to take about what we are paying Eddie Lee, I’d have him back in a heartbeat.

Do you know how much Lee is on? Sounds like wishful thinking but for 450k would definitely take him.

If he'd play wing for decent wing money - sure.
When he was here before he would only play centre for marquee player money - so we payed him twice what he was worth to play a position he wasn't that great in.
The Gardner quote in the Toohey article sounded like he is a great squad member we'd like to have, but not for the money he would expect to get - so if no one wants him, we might win the dutch auction for him. (meaning he'll have to drop his price down till someone will pay it)

The market for centres/wingers isn’t likely to be great so I don’t think it’s out of the question that it could happen. If anyone’s gonna drop silly money it’d be on Coates & Staggs. I can’t think of a club prepared to drop $500K+ on an outside back atm except the Dogs, who’ve already spent all their cap doing just that hahaha.

I would guess Eddie is earning anywhere between $300K and $450K with us. Obviously I have no idea though.

Pearce is on track for a round 14 return but is working hard for a round or 2 earlier if he can.

We could get a final call on a Clifford release next week.

The Knights bus got stuck on a median strip before the titans game and they all had to get out and push or risk missing their plane.

The team is off the grog for short turnaround weeks, so stayed on the goldcoast and didn't have a drink after the Titans loss.

Toohey gave points for the Titans game to 3 Ponga 2 Jones 1 Brailey

Would have looked hilarious driving past an NRL team pushing their bus.

Thats how I would score the points as well.

Coach says praising the Knights for their grit in defence against Penrith would make them soft. That's what they should be doing - not something to be praised for.

Jones is getting enquiries from other clubs, but wants to remain a Knight (according to his manager)

Bailey Hodgson has lost his license for speeding. It doesn't say, but I assume he would have been on P plates so probably just one time speeding.

Wests made facilities available for a big funeral for the under 17s player who died in a car accident.

The Panthers try from a scrum was questionable because the Panthers forwards stayed bound in the scrum and pushed, thereby taking out several potential Knights defenders.

Toohey's votes
Sharks game - 3 Ponga 2 Jones 1 Frizell

Penrith game - 3 Mann 2 Brailey 1 Ponga

The Panthers try from the scrum was straight out of an NFL playbook and an obstruction every day of the week. I reckon if Dan had blown up it would have been overturned for sure. I wasn't sure at the time why he was so accepting, but when Obi said they'd practised all week for it, I guess he feels he'd dudded his side for something they knew was coming. The Panthers prop even bored in on him NFL style and when DSaf steps out to go around him, Edwards takes exactly that gap.

I called them out for it in the game day thread when they scored it. Should have been a blow up about it, but the bunker reviews every try anyway, so clearly they didn't call it back.

OB should have mentioned the tactic in the presser to get more attention on it.

A high profile centre is our signing priority. We had talks with Staggs and Chambers, but their asking price was too high.

Our only top 30 signings for next year remain Jake Clifford and 19 year old Manly centre Krystian Mapapalangi, who has been released by Manly after the Ball season and should play reserve grade for us as early as next week. He played 5/8 in Manly's SG Ball semifinal loss last week.

Wests are close to making a decision on fielding a senior women's NRL side in 2022.

Found this profile amongst top Ball players this year.

"KRYSTIAN MAPAPALANGI (SEA EAGLES)

The utility back spent pre-season with Manly’s NRL side and has excelled at both five-eighth and fullback in SG Ball. Mapapalangi attended league powerhouse Holy Cross College in Ryde and the school’s coaches say the youngster is one of the most talented kids they have ever seen. So far, Mapapalangi has set up plenty of tries and scored two himself."
