I do wonder whether it was a case of looking better in Melbourne under Bellamy next to their guys when given the chance.
Ironically enough he knew there was a chance he would struggle to break the starting side having the clause in his contract that if Hughes signs a long term deal he could look elsewhere and I imagine there was a thought he was groomed to be in the halves next to either Munster.
Especially salary cap pressure etc.
He's still gonna do well dollars wise but yeah his market value probably halved since.
Young halves are always super hit and miss anyway in general. Though I wouldn't say time isn't on his side anyway.
 
Don’t want to knock him too much - he’s young, and still has the potential to come back and bite me.

He’s done some decent apprenticeships - Bellamy, Hughes, Munster, Moses. Interesting it was Ryles (Storm connection) that agreed to the year - but hasn’t really played him/relied on him.

Sure - a bit of bad luck with injuries along the way.

But the longer his narrative draws out for, the more and more likely it is he ends up a plodder fringe first grader. I don’t really wish ill upon him though.

He had the perfect opportunity to come here and be the main man, keys to the castle and decided to sit in reserves at the Storm. Granted we were in a horrible position at the time. But had the starting 7 spot for the foreseeable future would be what many young up and coming halves dream of. Especially when you’ve got Anastasia on 360 saying he deserves a go somewhere! ( but he’s too good for Newcastle).

Bit of a sliding doors moment for us as a club - meant we went in hard for Brown and I think he has lifted most aspects to a new level - with Holbrook. Worked out well - but again - still 1/10th of the way through the contract. Long way to go yet.

Hard to say what could have been with Pezet - maybe he just needs some consistency. Or maybe you’re right, and he looks good in a good system. Still think he has enough fundamentals to come good, but time is kind of running out before he becomes a mercenary back up half. Can’t help but think Anastasia has managed him horribly.

TBH not only Brown, if we get Pezet we dont get Sandon. Im very happy with how its worked out for us. Seeing some of his games for the Eels hes be rocks or diamonds. But the rocks part is atrocious.

I've said a few times that Anasta has done a terrible job with him, and others have disagreed. Hopefully he can at least get a starting spot next year in a struggling Broncos side ... otherwise it's looking like a bit of a car crash to me! But others will disagree, there was plenty of praise for Anasta last time I brought it up.
 
Anasta handled Munster's stuff terribly too. Tried to up his value by talking to the Chiefs then Munster did a 180 on it saying it's not a good look for me whilst I'm not a post Nov 1 free agent, when my team mates having a game this week and better off waiting till Nov 1 to work something out (Storm or other).

Anasta should just not have a media role whatsoever whilst he's still a player agent considering he can't shut up about his clients whenever he gets the chance to.
 
I wouldn't trade Dylan for Jonah so it's all worked out great for us. Jonah may very well go on to have a very good career, but they're closer in age than people think and by the time Dylan was 23 people were already mad at him for not being a clear top 5 half in the game yet, as opposed to the current "wow, what a tantalising mystery box" perspective re: Jonah... different levels of prospect.

And yeah there is a level Dylan could get to that I don't think Jonah ever could. Aside from Dylan's all time great defence, the level of athlete/run threat a playmaker is impacts what their ceiling is. Dylan is one of the most dangerous ball runners in the game. Defenders worry about him cutting back off his outside foot more than they do with any other #7 in the game except Hughes & Cleary, and I think he may actually be the most dangerous 7 going the other way, skipping to the *outside* of his man and forcing wider defenders to jam in. And as a result Kalyn's probably had the most 4 on 3 and 3 on 2 opportunities he's ever had, by a lot, rather than dining out on wide four on fours/three on threes.

Pezet is probably the more practiced & able general play kicker, but I'd rather have the guy who has the stuff that literally can not be taught & ask him to practice the stuff that can.
 
It has worked out really well for us by not signing Pezet.

Brown is by far a better player and Sandon is better as well. As said above, I doubt we would have either if we signed Pezet

Pezet is made of glass as well. This year he has missed over half the season with back to back hamstring injuries, I think there was a suspension and is now out due to a shoulder issue. He had multiple injuries while at Melbourne as well

You can’t for fill your potential if you are always injured

Also he would now be behind Duffy at Broncos next year. Pezet will be in reserve grade there now as well. That would be 3 teams he has been at and only been a back up half. Next stop is Super League I think
 
I don't want to seem like I'm being contradictory for the sake of it but if Jonah can stay fit, the Broncos are likely a great place for him. Not just because they need a 7 whose main asset is his boot, but I think the style of ball player he is will mesh with Walsh quite well. I've always thought he looked better playing a bit off the cuff, do stuff quickly, feast on chaos style, rather than trying to execute the kind of shape work Ponga thrives on working in.

I guess what I'd say is if he can't make it work there, not having to worry about much more than his kicking game and bringing Walsh onto the ball well, he doesn't have it as an NRL first grader.
 
It will be interesting to see what Madge does with Duffy as well, given Reynolds is out for concussion protocols this week and is retiring at the end of the season...but also a club legend having brought them a ring....it may all depend on how well Duffy goes this w/e as to how many of the remaining dead rubber (as far as the Broncos are concerned) games he starts.

tl; dr: Duffy might get extra time now to establish himself as the 7, with Ezra being the obvious first choice for 6. Pezet may well turn up in Brisbane to find himself behind Duffy and Hunt.

I agree the injuries have hindered his development massively.

I don’t wish ill of the kid at all, just stating that the amount of injuries are really stacking up now. It’s more the timing of the injuries halting his ability to cement a starting first grade halves spot

There are many players who have been trying to cement a spot in first grade that have been injured at the wrong time and the guy who replaces him excels and he never gets a look in again

I just think the timing of his injuries is what is going to limit his career in the NRL

I heard Reynolds is really busted up and likely won’t be fit for most of the rest of the season. It was on Beers and Breakevens pod cast I think

Didn't Anasta say Pezet was the smartest player he's met, something along those lines.

I wouldn't be surprised if Pezet spends time in reserve grade next year at the Broncos and hasn't set the world on fire at Parramatta this year at all.
