Toohey's News

I would love Lucas to he resigned, he is a great bloke, player, looks to he a leader and could captain one day.

He is consistent and I wouldn’t trade him for a soul, yes we have many second rowers and if Lucas was to leave Manu would slot easily into the position so it won’t kill us, but id really love to see Lucas stay, he is one of my favourites.

I will play devils advocate and say we have to be smart, we need to keep Bradman, we have many high level second rowers but we have no one right now I think could take over from Bradman as a like for like in terms of instantly being damaging, so we do have to be smart.
Yes, we are going to struggle to replace Gags with a quality player let alone Best as well. We need to keep Bradman.

I'd love to also keep Lucas but Mosses is a knob and will make it very difficult.
We do have quality back row prospects developing nicely.
Hopefully Lucas loves the club and has told his manager he is staying. But now that slime ball manager is just trying to get every last cent.

Was a mere 24 months ago $1m bought you Payne Haas. How on earth are we allowing that subhuman gypsie, Moses, to lead the narrative that his client is worth $1m

I'm not copping that 😂
I don’t think any back rower is worth that except Eli Katoa as I’ve said, but he’s a special case who IMO was genuinely on a “best player of the NRL era in his position” trajectory. I think Lucas is right up there and personally rate him above everyone who’s going to get picked for Origin on an edge ahead of him. The mix of strike ability and work rate is rare and these are players that win premierships. Haumole is better at his best but isn’t consistent.

I think this is the right read. We’re in a similar position to Brisbane a while back where they almost had too many gun wide players. Losing David Fifita & Herbie Farnworth was a blow but it didn’t end up ****ing them. And their approach was just to lock down the guys who were keen to be locked down and worry about the rest later. Staggs was prioritised because he wanted to be a Bronco the most.

So yeah just re-sign Bradman, get Sharpe locked down hopefully, make sure you don’t blow it with Cody Hopwood, re-up J Saf… and then you come to Lucas with the best offer you can make once he’s testing the market.

What I’d say about Lucas is that I don’t think you actually can “replace” him. You put a different player in his position and try to replace a lot of what Lucas brings value-wise in the aggregate, ie by bolstering the middle forward stocks with a fair whack of that money.

And yes Francis looking a lot closer to being ready for first grade than potential Bradman replacements is a factor here too.

I crossed referenced this with zero tackle so it pretty close. Hamole top earner at 850K. So Lucus on the open market is worthy 800K - 850K. If he’s currently on 700K here.

Completely agree with previous posts.
Bradman
Jsaf
Sharpe
Lucus

The additional bonus of having Lucas is ability to be a top centre so covers say Best if injured and in comes Manu to 2nd row especially if next season Gagai gone and right centre is one of our Cup players.
I like what Lucas brings to the side and will be very disappointed if both he and Best don’t get resigned for several years

I don’t see J Saf being kept on unless he takes a massive cut. He deserves to go to PNG or Perth to make huge dollars. He can see the writing on the wall as mentioned in that Toohey article. He is such a good bloke.

JSAF will stay, don’t know why people think he is broke, he has earned quite a bit plus his rep dollars, recently given stand in captain which shows him how highly the club see him.

I think he would want to end his career a one club legend and that’s not to mention the club knows how important he is anyway

Not to mention we are on the rise and joining Perth or PNG would be a huge step backwards and I’m sure he hasn’t busted his gut just to switch teams and get beat 90% of the time as soon as it looks like we are going up

We are already thin in the middle with him here.
No one says otherwise. No one said he was broke either. I am saying he deserves to make good money why he is still in form to do so. IMO it would be an insult to him to ask him to take a pay cut given he is in arguably career best form. If he stays then that is great. I applaud him standing up. If he is happy to take a lesser fee then no one will complain.

Yes, absolutely agree he’s our best forward easy. So what that amount would be? Surely he gets about 700K still?

Edit. I just checked zero tackle, he is currently on 700K, so good guess by me!
Hopefully the club can offer that same amount as I actually think he is worth a bit more on the open market. Few on here picking him for bench Prop in Origin, which really push’s his value up.
