Cooper is a loss but it’s not like we would have kicked him out obviously he felt like the Storm would be better for him at this time, we might get him back in the future.

As long as we can keep people like Loza and especially Butler we will be fine it’s not the end of days because we lost a junior it happens

Dane Gagai feels "disrespected" by being asked to take a near 100k paycut from his 400k mutual offer. He is talking about options that include retirement, moving to Sydney or joining his brother in England. It all sounds like negotiating tactics to me.

JSaf is not training yet because he is getting over gastro. Brodie Jones has started training, but has dropped nearly 7kg. Bradman has a slight knee cartilage strain but still named to play.

Stories of Dylan Brown snubbing the club are nonsense - he has family reasons for not wanting to move right now and we don't have cap space for this year - Parra would have had to pay 150k of his salary to make it happen.

Green has no interest in coaching Castleford.

Toby Winter was on fire at the schoolboys champs and no one at the Knights was surprised - he is signed for another 3 years, but what we do with a 4th young fullback is the question.
 
I dont see the issue with asking gagai to take a paycut, his the type of guy thats going to keep playing and a time will come where we all go "his gone a year to long".
These are the kind of things you need to do as a club to manage your cap effectively, and at this stage we are negotiating, you dont go to the table and put forward your best offer, thats madness.
Id be proposing a bigger paycut for him with the promise of a well paid gig post retirement to compensate for it.

I'm in this boat. Knight working as a business, the extra 100k could land them Mooney same with the potential 100k from Frizell.

thinking of Sydney clubs, im not sure who would offer more than 350k-400k for one season.

I also see players pov, as when you retire/payout/redundancy you expect good coin, sometime however that isn't what you'll expect it to be.

Dropping their final year amount may have landed us Kingston Seve who could potentially one of the best young back in the comp.
 
Agree with @EASBay17 and @BTP

Whilst we all respect Gags and want him to stay, it's easy to say it's just $100k without actually having to balance the cap. Especially when that money could be the difference between keeping or getting a young player who will be a part of the long-term future of the club.

Also agree with @Billy, it's likely all part of the negotiating. I hope Gags stays and ends up in the coaching box in some capacity in 2027.

If it's over $100k meet him in the middle at $50k and that we both can claim they had the high ground.

But agree insanity and if we end up losing him, can see a Souths cameo it's dumb on our part.
 
It's actually a year ago he turned down a two year 2025/26 deal with the Roosters to stay with us. It's another by-product of the clown show of the recruitment staff changing so frequently because POS wasn't here back then. But we threw in the mutual option to tempt him to stay. Since then he's played Origin, been one of our best week to week, and it currently doing a fantastic job filling in at fullback and captaining the side. I'd be pretty damn annoyed as well if the club then came back to me and said "oh, that extra year we signed up to a year ago to get you to stay? Now you're not worth it, here's a pay cut if you want to stick around". Well run companies just don't treat people like this.
