Pezet isn't wrong in thinking the Storm can offer an outstanding young talent a leg up that the Knights can't match.
Storm have next to no home grown talent and can spend their money on a handful of poached players from other systems, While Cooper Votano was one of 4 outstanding halves we had in our under 16s and under 17s sides this year. IMO he was 3rd best behind Chase Butler and Morgan Carter, and Tye Ennis might turn out better as well.

Well, he says O'Brien doesn't have an exit strategy. I don't think he knows what Parr and POS are doing behind the scenes.

I reckon AOB will end up as an assistant to Brad Arthur at the Titans.
Although Kenty suggested last night he'd like to see the Walker Bros get a go, he pointed out that some recent tactics adopted in the NRL started with them, such as the short drop-out and that most coaches in the NRL are cookie-cutter copies of each other. Suggested that there is more than one style that can be successful in the NRL. But he did point out that any club that took the gamble on coaches as radical as the Walker Bros could quickly be under pressure, and a lot of boards just want to wear the blazer and are happy with mid-table, so won't take risks.
Joey (or the person that writes for Joey) put a good piece together in SMH on our rebuild.

Ponga owes us nothing and if he wants to leave then thanks for your service, we understand. He's not going to win a comp with what we have. But if he does leave, it doesn't leave us in a good spot for 2026.
AOB has done a good job under extreme pressure, with stability on the field but has been let down by instability around him. Each recruitment guy comes with different ideas on what the club should look like, so churning through these guys doesn't give us any consistency. Need to go back to the mantra of 75% of the club should be built on local juniors. The DNA is a 'development club' built from within, because we can't compete with the richer more powerful clubs.
It ends with whoever the next coach is faces a huge challenge & it will be years before we challenge for premierships. If Ponga leaves, the pressure on Brown amplifies - personally I don't think this is something he needs.

Putting it politely, Newcastle’s roster is a complete mess. Kalyn Ponga and Adam O’Brien can’t solve it, because the problems run so much deeper at my club.

Kenty must be mates with the Walker brothers. They won a comp yes, but never finished better than 5th and haven’t coached since 2020. Hiding them you’d be a chance at getting Sam Walker, but he also probably walks out when you sack them after 1 year.
I think his essential point is atm everyone in the NRL is coaching the same and that he'd love to see a coach(es) take a different approach.
The whole Sam Walker thing I think is a furphy. The Roosters seem pretty all in on Walker anyway, but he's not going anywhere for less than $1m.

Votano is no loss. He's exhibiting very few of the physical characteristics required of an emerging outside back/fullback - can't burn you with speed, isn't agile enough to step inside or outside, doesnt break tackles. He survives on his pedigree as a junior imo.

Do you think Hunt will turn out alright? Coz that kind of describes him at the moment too.

I think those comments come from easy pre-game "analysis" talking points, where you can say one sentence & not go into too much depth.
We’re already tracking quite well with setting up our junior ranks and providing great pathways from U/15’s. Already signed players long term like Latu, Hopwood, Morgan Carter, Rico Elers, Ty Ennis and Chase Butler to long term deals. That area we are at least a few years into to doing the right thing.

Hunt is a far better prospect imo. Aside from his last game, Hunt has looked good in FG. Votano struggling to look good in NSW Cup. Hunt is about 6 months older.
There's no guarantees around Hunt, but considering the kid hasnt had a FG preseason (as far as im aware) his improvement curve has all the hallmarks of FGr. Doesnt need perfect conditions to showcase his talent or effect a game, competes, welcomes the physical side of the game, was a good 5/8th and seems quick and agile enough to play in the outside backs, but there's still a way to go. I reckon Hunt will get there in a year or so.
Votano needs to be moved to the centres or 5/8th or something. There's no way hes breaking first grade as a fullback
Hunt did FG this yr as a train and trialist, along with likes of Greacen, Loza etc. like then Hunt took it with both hands, two the point Bunt was given first crack at FG in trials over Votano, that was the first big indicator to me something was amiss with Votano.

The Votano that’s leaving is a half - Cooper and is 17. Are you thinking of his older Brother - Connor who is a fullback, 19 and still here?
