Toohey's News

Friz will be on a 1 year extension. Has no material impact on POS efforts to rebalance the salary cap.
That's not true, though. Whilst I don't want either Friz or Gags to go, there is a clear impact on the cap and squad.

POS will save $100k-$200k on each deal if they stay, a lot more if they go. The NRL minimum is approximately $150k.

If they do stay, they block the pathway to FG for players coming through.

As someone pointed out earlier, it looks like POS is rolling the dice on these deals with the deck stacked in the club's favour, with vets likely to not want to move their families for one or two seasons.

It's brutal, but it's what the successful clubs have been doing for a long time.

Without us knowing the detail, you're probably right. Because Im sure POS is aware of the pitfalls of losing either or both of Gag and Friz.

But its hard to rationalise the benefit of letting Friz go

We may resign him at or just below his option value, i dont think we let him go. It looks like smart business by the club to try and save a few dollars by not just handing him the contract.

That the Knights don't need to pay overs to sign players any more? Same as the other players the club refused to pay overs to keep.

I think you're reading far too much into it.

Crouch from Cronulla, 3 yr deal, is he good?
Worries me that we offer contracts to players that are not as good as what we have and are missing that important thing, experience.
Yes Friz would most likely be for one season which in turn gives us time to develop some of our younger less experienced players that we have coming through.
What we really need is a couple of strong experienced props with 2-3 good years in them

He is one I think we got right.

Very solid player and local kid. Been one of the best Cup forwards past couple seasons.

We wouldn't be paying a lot for him, not going to guess but you'll get vaule for money out of him as a replacement of Hethro and Elliot.

NZ half, in the prime of his career, already been to a GF and will likely be the only Knight with GF experience (best case scenario) who is locked up at a time where another $12m is coming into the market from Perth and another $12m tax free from PNG (and potentially another $12m from NZ if the expansion plans get to the mooted 20) and a salary cap increase if things go well with the NRL rights deal. Yeah, it's overs, but in a couple of seasons, will it look like overs or a savvy piece of business from the club looking ahead?

Aside from Brown, that's pretty much it atm.

100% IDK how any 21-year-old who hasn't made FG yet and is probably not on significantly more than the NRL base salary can be on "overs".

PS. Continuing my campaign for a 100% emoji!!!
