Toohey's News

I can get Gags and Frizz kicking stones over the reduced amounts, Same as working at a job for 10+ years and not getting a decent payout or redundancy, I still feel like they'll settle on something and my ultimate hope is they stay on as pathways coaches in some form, especially Gags.

Hunt is still raw and not an explosive player, in same vain as McCarthy. Strong players, great defenders, but not explosive. Unless DeCourcey or Latu and D,Acre come along in next few years defensively and becomes centres I think that is who we'll have as our options. We've been blessed with two exceptinal centre talents in Gags and Best, with Gags close to going it's paramount McCarthy or Hunt develop there ball playing ability to provide for there winger, continue growth physically and the game plan to include contesting kicks each game. McCarthy showed in Cup last week that he contested every kick coming his way and provided a tap back or forced error for DeCourcey to score 4.

Both got better deals with the Knights then they would have got elsewhere when they came here and Frizzell got a decent upgrade after.
Not quite the same working elsewhere on a permanent deal getting gradual salary increases.

Elliot is kinda a surprise with him being a bit younger but he offers less so if he is expecting more or the same then yep good luck to you elsewhere.
I’ve been expecting Jack to be gone for over 12 months. Probably worth half of what he’s on if we’re being honest

POS is steadily clearing out the deadwood and players on overs from our roster. This has to make a big difference to our team over the next few years.
I still can't see a roster move that POS has made that I don't firmly agree with. The only on that's debatable is the size and length of Brown's contract but he was on over a million just to stay at the Eels, it's 8 years not the oft reported 10 because the club has the options for the final two and we're about to see a lot of money being thrown at spine players by Perth and PNG and the rest of the league if the rights deal goes well for the NRL.

The problem I see is we have to spend 90 or 95% of our cap, whatever it is. If we don’t end up signing anyone then we’re still going to have to spend the money somewhere. If it’s not on new signings then I hope it isn’t just paying too much to average first graders so we reach the minimum.

Yes we can frontload people, but that doubles the problem in 2027.

The corollary to that is that POS will be able to make active moves in 26 and 27 as things happen. I'd be surprised if POS isn't able to keep the team cap compliant without dumping money on a journeyman.

PS. I'd love to see his whiteboard...or whatever he uses to track depth positions and targets...I know we never will, but it would be hugely interesting.

Elliot must nearly have spent as much time on the sidelines as he has on the field, maybe more. The Knights aren’t getting return for investment unfortunately.

Interesting he says the reason the KPP-TDS swap fell through was KPP refusing to make the move early. Obviously within his rights to do so but it'll be a bit annoying if we end up missing out completely because of it.

He probably wanted to play out the season with his mate Dom in the squad?

You wouldn’t love hearing that if you’re the Tigers. Really does sound like he’s only leaving due to money. I suppose similar to us and Brown.

Maybe he thought knights better team this year and we just now showing it, we have won more games than tigers currently and above them on ladder.
