The pre-season thread - 2022

If Milford were playing for his future, i'd be OK with it - although I know nothing about his off field dramas (and don't care as long as he can play).

If he is already signed for the Dolphins and is just going through the motions to earn some dollars - it's a no from me.

In case you haven't noticed he's also been absolutely useless for years.

Throw in his off-field issues which are a ticking time bomb, and it's a pretty poor call if we sign him.

Makes the good point that coming into the team mid season last year was difficult, but spending a pre season with the squad is much better preparation.

Gives nothing away about who his partner will be, but says Clune and Crossland are both training well.

Says his floating bomb is something he used at training in the past, but only in games at the end of last year. He seems to be talking about knowing when to do the floating bomb next season - so I suspect Joey is working on when he should use the bomb and who to target.

Guess it depends on your definition. For me I would describe Ponga as the most skilful player, things seem to come to him naturally on the field, but when I think of a pure athlete, speed, power, body frame, genetics, Young definitely comes to mind.
 
We have a lot of athletes this year.
Simi can move and is strong.
Jirah has been the strongest at the club since he was 19 and for a prop he can run. I've only seen him in the clear a handful of times, but I'd back him to beat Fitzy in a footrace.
Bradman was a bit down on pace in 2021 after all his leg and foot operations, but I don't think he's missed a training session this year and would be hard to beat for pace and strength if he's back to his best.
Young was amongst the fastest in the NRL and is a huge guy who moves well.
Ponga can move.
Crossland was a genuine speedster before his groin injury and he looks to be over it now.
Dylan Lucas can motor.
Mac Baker is a smallish guy, but pretty zippy.
Edrick Lee was our fastest by a fair way a couple of years ago.

I honestly couldn't guess who would win over 100 metres - any of 5 or 6 guys could win.
 
When you Google ‘Maori’ it’s almost impossible to find an instance of them NOT being referred to as “the indigenous people of New Zealand” but w/e lol
 
Pasifika people are indigenous to the Pacific Islands, so why did you refer to them separately?

Generally when someone says Indigenous in this context it would be taken to mean Indigenous Australian. Eg Indigenous All Stars vs Māori All Stars.

Nobody says NZ’s indigenous people because they say Māori.
 
Because Tongans, Fijians etc have sovereignty. You reference the indigenous people of a place to emphasise their status as the original custodians of those lands. It's not so necessary when said people maintain that status.

Anyway, we're off track. Can we just accept that it wasn't my intent to exclude Maori people when I was talking about scary good rugby league players & call it a day?

Not all pacific island nations maintain custody of their land btw.

I don't know why you're so bothered, I was just pointing out you'd missed Māori in the first place? In I thought a tongue in cheek way, but I guess not.
