The Official 'Give Aku a Game' Thread

How can you say that when he hasn't played half back in so long? He was great in his 20 mins on Sunday. I'm definately keen to see what he's got in the half back department - why not try it?

He used to be pretty hopeless at 5/8, but then again, prior to the semi vs Manly in 2006 he had always been pretty hopeless at fullback!

His whole game has stepped up so many notches in the last year that I reckon it's definitely worth a shot putting him back in the halves.

AS James said, he wasnt the best at 5/8 back when he played.

I just think he's more suited to Fullback and far more dangerous there.

Im not against trying him in the halves, worth a go.

Geez must be a slap in the face for Walsh all this talk of Gidley at half-back, I can see him leaving us whenever he is off contract.

It would be VERY hard to be Walshy I reckon, after playing so much last year and then.. nothing.

Walshy did make his debut in the corresponding game last year. A game we won, after getting beaten by the broncos the week before, hopefully history repeats.

I agree, Vuna hasn't been performing lately. He has obviously got the potential, maybe he needs a little more time in the lower grades.

Coops was ok, not real reason to drop him after the performance he put out yesterday.

The first time Maddog passed it to him he scored. He got very little ball in plays but he did plenty of his scoots and im surprised everyone on here isnt happy little Vegemites cause he barely ran sideways off them at all! \\:D/

Vuna is playing terribly. He is a horrible crab that benefited from the fact that the Roosters didn't target him more. Anyone could have scored the try he did. If ever there was a player to drop to blood Uate...

a horrible crab? firstly congratulations on the creative terminology there, but teams just don't stop targetting a player if he is playing terribly, if anything they would target him more. I think the fact the Roosters stopped targetting him is because he had an alright game and they might not have seen many more points down his side. I may be wrong of course but i think most teams have figured that there is a much better chance of scoring points against us if they go up the middle rather than around. I think Vuna has been going alright, he has alot of dummy half runs and that tells me he wants to be involved, even if it doesn't come off everytime, he's having a real go of it and deserves his spot. I think with Macdougal injured now it might be a good time to bring in Aku or maybe Luke Macdougal. With the other Macdougal you still get a fair bit of experience in what is a very young backline.
Also, O'meley is just ****ed off because he knows he couldn't have run that far, and he can't do backflips.

I don't have time to go drudging through match reports, but Vuna lets in plenty of tries, that aside, I understand it's his 'attacking brilliance' that there is a love-in over, most have accepted he is a shirt grabbing liability who can't read play very well. I can cop that too, if and only if, this much lauded attacking prowess is being displayed, but frankly, running 20m across field then getting dominated back is pathetic. I've said so all season. People reply with 'Oh no, it's just him centering the ball in the field, that's a valuable asset' But no, even when the ball is played centre field, he still crabs.

The point about going through the middle against us is ridiculous, our ruck defence is better than its ever been, all their tries were scored off kicks to the wing, and I'm certain it was 3-1 against Vuna's side. Just because we starved them out of the game in the second half doesn't mean they stop attacking Vuna because he was having a good game.

Pretty sure he only ran sideways once on the weekend and it wasnt even for that long. He had at least 7 runs from dummy half on the weekend which means hes getting better. Trust me im not his biggest fan even though i like the guy im just telling the facts. From what i recall he only got the ball once on the weekend and he scored off it, sure it was pretty straight forward but he still got there.
If you were saying what you are saying now, 2 or 3 weeks back id agree with you, but dont spray him after he didnt do anything wrong on the weekend.

you're kidding yourself if you think our ruck defense is great, absolutely kidding yourself. It is terrible, and that is what they need to be concentrating on. Even the players say it in interviews. I dont know how many times brisbane busted straight through the middle of us the weekend before, not to mention willy mason going straight through on the weekend a few times. Hey even BS reckons they need work on their ruck defense, so if you're going to listen to someone about what needs improving then surely it would be him.

He had something like 7 touches for 50 something metres... Compared to Mcmanus who had 15 for 190 something? Which was supposed to be the attacking player?
