The Johns vs Thurston debate

Anyone else been taking notice of this over the last few days?

It's a total insult to Johns imo. Johns was the complete footballer. Thurston is nowhere near his level. Johns shades him in pretty much every attacking aspect and absolutely murders him defensively.
Thoughts?

JT cant be compared to Joey until he wins his team a GF at least!
 
Love JT, the closest thing to an Immortal playing the game today with daylight between him and Smith but Joey changed the game. Without Johns, halves are playing a very different game, a very different style. There's no bullet passes, halves challenging the line, short kicking etc. What Thurston does is ****ing fantastic, very few players are able to single handily change the swing of the game but it's still a yard or two off from what Johns did and will probably always be that way.
 
Everytime the Cowboys hit a bit of form everyone brings up this silly debate. Until Thurston can carry his team to a GF victory he won't be spoken of in the same breath as Johns. In fact if he doesn't period in my eyes he will be below Cherry Evans and Cronk in the 'list'

He's still easily miles above Cronk & DCE, I could've won a grand final with the players around me that those pair had.
 
I believe its come up more because they are now on par with the number of games they've both played. I can't even read the Facebook comments anymore, drives me bananas. There is no contest - Johns every day.

Yeah there's a point there. But one thing that has really impressed me about Cronk and DCE is that they have come into systems with a lot of pressure and expectation on them and they handled it well. They both were replacing established halfbacks and both won premiereships after them. Whether the coaching staff deserves more credit for that I don't know.
I still believe on paper Thurston had good enough teams to make the top 8 in most of those years. The only years we didn't make the 8 were when Joey was injured 04-05 and those years we had practically NSW Cup backlines and looked like a top 8 team at the backend of 2005.
I look at 2006 and wonder what the hell happened there? Then the 2008-10 years and despite some coaching dramas they still had a good enough team to make the 8. Not finish 15th in 2010.
 
Although I don't like the cowboys all that much, this debate makes me feel bad for them. Every time they win the media says "JT wins it for Cowboys" etc... Even if he had no input.
Good example is when they played against the storm in round 4. He was quiet all game, then kicked too field goals and apparently he is an immortal. It's just wrong.
He is just a household name, nothing more.

Oh no doubt! I just wouldn't mind shutting up a few mates with some rib crushers he used to put on forwards, a few missed JT tackles thrown in couldn't hurt!
We hear comparisons repeatedly with Wally and Lockyer but never see half of the game which is D
 
According to an interview with Fletch and Hindy he gave his ring to Steve Price so technically... :lol:
