Tevita Pangai Jnr

Haven’t had to say anything as to why I’m here for quite some time so not sure why that’s been brought up.

Not having a cry. Just letting you know you’ve done it to death. Everyone knows you’ve got a hard on for him. Not sure why as he is a fairly average player who is consistently injured. Not what the Knights need.

Righto, good chat buddy.

I don't think there will be an exodus of players leaving Brisbane tbh, when he left last time only Boyd went with him but IIRC the Donkeys had told him they didn't want him.

As for Bird I doubt we'd have another crack but personally I think he could be a great 5/8 with the right guys around him, Pearce and Ponga would be those guys.

Brown went really hard for Jack Bird when he was on the market - offered him way more than Brisbane it was reported at the time.
I think he was really keen to have him as a 5/8, but since then we have signed Pearce, signed Watson as probably a poor man's Bird in Brown's eyes (for less than half the money), and found that Ponga has playmaking skills beyond anything we dreamed.
I don't think we'd want Bird now - certainly not for anything like the money we were prepared to throw at him a year ago.
Ponga has skills beyond anything you've seen you mean hey because I remember Brown talking about how good this kid is along with everyone else who knew him and a lot of people on here going off about how much we paid him ….Give Brown some credit he knew how good this kid is long before he signed him .

Literally the first thing Brown said about Ponga after the first few training sessions was that he was surprized by what he was doing.

Not hard. Everyone who had seen him knew how good he could be.

Knights were lucky to be in the middle of a cleanout and could justify overspending at the time for this young prodigy which after one season could well be a steal for his talent. Similar to how the Cowboys could gamble of a then young Thurston.

Yeah because he was even better than Brown had thought when he saw him at our training and Brown had thought he was good enough to go after him flat out when he was still a fringe first grader at the cowboys .

So I said he was better than we thought.
You said it was only me -Brown always knew.
I said Brown said he was surprized.
You agreed that Brown was surprized.
I'm afraid that I'm not able to perform the sort of mental gymnastics needed to try to follow your logic.

Brown knew the kid was good enough to spend all that money on before he signed , then when he got here and started training Brown saw he was better than he thought he was when he signed him...

I just watched Hit or Miss Round 2 on the NRL website. They were discussing TPJs game against the cowboys last week, when Michael Chammas mentioned that Newcastle had kept some salary cap space aside to go back after him again next year. I know the club has basically said that the days of the big name signings are over. As far as I know, Jamie Buhrer, Hymel Hunt and Skd are off contract. Nathan Ross has a year to go, but that is in question. I still think if TPJ leaves Brisbane, it will be to go to Souths. What does everyone think?

He'd be happy to live here because he has many relatives in the area and many old friends, and he's also aware there are many nice spots in the area, having been raised here.
It comes down to if it would be a good career move for him, an it would if we are in the mix for a title next year.

Well the salary cap restraints comments from last year did make a bit of sense now that it is being reported the Broncos aren't keeping Alex Glenn around and Im sure there are other juggling acts there, but I doubt Pangai signed the deal to expect a longer term extension later on with Brisbane specifically. Wayne probably told him all this was going to happen but he will test his value on the open market I imagine despite 12 months ago ruling out any intention of ever leaving the Broncos (granted that was with Bennett there)
