Hi all
I'm just curious if anyone has any info as to what AusGrid Stadium is going to be called in 2012.

I recall when EnergyAustralia Stadium became AusGrid Stadium about 12months ago that it was only going to be a one-year naming deal.

Anyone heard anything?

Newcastle ISC
Marathon Stadium
EnergyAustralia Stadium
AusGrid Stadium
?????

I would LOVE for it to be called Marathon Stadium again, that would just be perfect lol

I would love White Castle to get the naming rights.

I'd love for White Castle to come to Australia actually...Harold and Kumar has influenced me greatly. :D

The stadium will never been named something that relates to the Knights, as the Jets play there too. Perhaps The Barracks though (just throwing it out there for sh!ts n gigs)? I cant see 'Jets' changing so you'd have to find something that makes sense for both teams.

Why are the Jets called the Jets? Is there an air force base in Newcastle or something?

Yeah Williamtown & also the RAAF had a base that is now called New Lambton Public School.

The stadium is actually built on the original Newcastle aerodrome - the big domed building up near the go cart track was originally an aircraft hanger. That probably has nothing to do with why they are the jets.

It'd be good to see Marathon Stadium back! I don't know, I don't really like 'White Castle' to be honest. Why not something original like Newcastle Sports Stadium or like Prod1gy suggested, "HSG Stadium"?

ive still been calling it energyaustralia all year and ive only just got used to it being ausgrid and now its gonna change again

Oh wow, that's interesting though!

I have continued to call it Marathon Stadium, so I'd personally love to get the name back again!
I doubt it'd happen though, so it needs to be a name that's gonna hang around for a long time to become a fortress again. I know it's odd, but when we lost the name Marathon Stadium and replaced it with EnergyAustralia Stadium, a lot of the intimidation the Knights had was lost. Teams feared going to Marathon Stadium, but they weren't intimidated by EnergyAustralia Stadium.

Imagine that, the Newcastle Knights wearing the red & blue striped jerseys from '88 with the yellow numbers & all, playing at Marathon Stadium. Now that would be perfect, realistically though we may well see a Tinkler-owned company take over the naming rights!

I don't know about the rest of you, but I've never once had to mention the stadium name:S The name is just a sponsor, I usually just call them out by their location.

I'm getting long in the tooth but I will always know it as the International Sports Center. How many of you remember Huggy's night club ? Wednesday night at Huggy's situated in the old stand was sensational...from what I can remember.
