Sonny agrees to a meeting with Gallop if he signs with the Roosters to discuss his walkout in 2008 because it would be "the right thing to do". And he acknowledges the type of treatment he would get by NRL fans & that he can't worry bout what people think of him.

Sailor, Mat Rogers (was probably better than before he left), Brad Thorne, I think it's more to do with their age when they get back that some may have deteriorated.

It could be just me, but everytime someone posts there opinion on here as to why they want SBW back etc you reply every time as to why he shouldnt and how scum he is. So you can't realy have a go at James if your doing the exact same thing.
I actually didn't even reply to anything you said until page four of this thread because I thought you'd probably react like this. It's impossible to have a discussion with you.
I said much the same thing on the first page to good old Blunty as I said to you, and as far as I know he is fine with it! We have differing opinions, nothing wrong with that.

I don't think he's a terrible person. He just wants money and having Nassar as your manager doesn't help, either.
If he does sign with an NRL club, I don't expect to see him stick around for long, but it will still be a massive boost for Rugby League to have him back once again.

In All honesty laney or anyone for that matter how old are you??
can you honestly say that when you were 21 if you were signed to a contractt and there was a way that you could get out of it and sign a contract that will help set your future up financialy, i mean He knew that he was injury prone at the time and who knows in the industry that he is in he could be forced to retire tomorrow from a freak accident then what?
My opinion is that nothing is cirtain so why shouldnt he garrentee himself the best that is being offered to him.
He has shown remorse he has even gone above and beyond what is asked of him and given back now that he is finacially sound and knows that he can afford too.

I agree, if it wasn't for those words being used, I don't think I would debate it quite so adamently.
To be honest, the Bulldogs can hardly complain about what he did, considering they did everything in their power to get Hasler out of Manly with a year to go on his contract there.

James rips into you (and others) because you are narrow-minded and refuse to have a proper discussion. If you accepted fault and other opinions you wouldn't be targeted so much. James is a Kiwi so he does have a bit of fire in the belly

I disagreed with it, but no, I didn't have a problem with what was said and as such did not reply.
So you say that he signed a contract to set him up financially? Why did he not go through the proper channels and gain a release? Not just hop on a plane and not informing your club.
Young, stupid, got bad advice, and under the type of pressure and situation that most 23 year olds don't find themselves in.

Then why is he still taking advice from the guy who arranged the walkout if he knows how wrong it was and regrets it? I know we all do stupid things but I just have the opinion that he knew what he was doing, he was happy to make his millions and then apologize after he's rich

Young? Yes, 23. Surely, he would know the law surrounding contracts and stuff. If it happened with any other contract, he would be in contravention of the law and would be committing an illegal act. The legal system certainly doesn't forgive that easily.
Stupid? Yes.
Got bad advice? Why is he still taking advice from that very same person who gave him this "bad advice" as Junior11 made that point.
Pressure? Yes, but he could have gone to his club and asked for a release from his contract. Not be like a 5 year old kid and hop on a plane without ANY notice to your club and players.
I make the point also, I don't really care what he has done for charities etc. The fact is, he left for the money. There is no two ways about it. The fact he will come back on more than any other player has ever been on (presuming the figure quoted is correct), is a huge kick up the butt for all the other players who have stayed in the game, are champions in their own right (Lockyer, Smith, Slater etc) and those who have brought the reputation of the game up. What he did shattered Rugby Leagues reputation.
What he did was equal to going and blabbing confidential information to the opposite political party. You would be expelled for bringing the party into disrepute.
James, I know you're not going to change your mind, but you are still at school and haven't really been through a lot of experiences in life. I've been in a situation where all I wanted to do was get on a place out of where I was and go somewhere else, despite all the commitments I had where I was.
And let's face it, my life is nowhere near the type of life that NRL players have, where everything they do is under the microscope.
I don't know all the circumstances around what happened, only Sonny Bill does. Of course he knew the law, but he was obviously at a stage where he didn't care. Why is he getting advice from the same person? Who is to say he is? He hasn't ran out on a contract since.
Anyway, I'm well over it and am looking forward to him hopefully playing the NRL again. Can't wait, in fact! If you can't forgive someone for one mistake years ago, that again - really hurt nobody, then it's your loss. There's nothing really further for me to discuss.

To everyone who is condeming sonny for breaking his contract with the dogs and in the same breath asking why he hasnt broken his contract with his manager do you not see the fault in your logic
Also with an older, wiser head on his shoulders maybe he is choosing what bits of advice he follows instead of everything he gets told.
