Slade Griffin announces his retirement

I reckon sign him. Comes from a winning culture and can play hooker, backrow, lock etc. Why wouldnt we.

If we sign him for a good price - good signing in a position we need to bolster.
If we miss out on him - no biggie - we can find another reserve grade hooker.

We don't need a forward that can play hooker, we need a hooker that can cover and/or put pressure on Levi and cover in case of injury. We have enough second rowers. What we really need are 1-2 props, a hooker and 1-2 centres and we then have it all covered.

They were just resting Cam for next week. Griffin went ok but didn't do anything that jumped out at me. I think he was playing lock before being moved to hooker late.

Yeah he only got 6 minutes at hooker at the end of the game. Storm had well & truly overwhelmed the Broncos by then. He's solid, but should not be someone we should get excited about.

No don't get excited?

He only holds his spot with the 17 in the best team in the competition and would bring the Storm's tough as teak mentality and training methods with him. And Browny won't know much about his game from his recruitment days with Bellamy as Assistant Coach? Come on guys get some positivity. Buhrer is not a hooker and Levi is not comin g on,probably down to his ****y back.

Wtf? Levi was close to our best player this season. Most of our good attacking football came as a result of his strong running game.

He was ordinary with a lot of mistakes and just can't play 80 minutes because of his back. We let a far better hooker in Randell escape.

Do you watch our games? Levi ****s on Randell (who I do rate as a good back up rake) from the greatest of heights. He does have a tendency to run abit too much in the opposition 20 but he along with D Saifiti were our 2 best this season by quite a distance.

Griffin is a goer but a good hooker he is not. He got about 2 minutes of actual play at the end of the game between stoppages and a penalty goal. Smiths real backup is that young Kiwi hooker that got injured.

It's a bit of a weird signing when we already have Buhrer as a stopgap hooker/backrower. I would have been going after a real hooker like Lichaa.

Im sure he'll get plenty of time when injuries hit.

Anyone who plays second string to Cameron Smith has to have had a fair apprenticeship for my money, no one except the Storm actually know how good he is and unless you have someone who has been inside the Storm system who has told you differently then I would be backing him to be become a mainstay of any Club struggling to find their feet.

Since he has been on the Knights radar I have been watching him for a hint of what is to come and I see him being in the same mould as Ryan Hinchcliffe , Tough , ruggered , uncompromising and very capable of playing anywhere in the pack in a pinch.

Yeah I'm happy with it. He has a great tackling technique, and he will be hungry to cement a spot. Dare say he will start over Levi. Lots to look forward to next season.

Slade Griffin joins Knights

Tue 3rd October, 05:00PM

The nib Newcastle Knights will welcome utility Slade Griffin to the Club in 2018, after he signed a two-year contract.

Griffin joins the Knights from the Melbourne Storm, where he made his NRL debut in 2013.

The 26-year-old can play hooker and lock.

“The Knights is a great Club and I am looking forward to playing a big part in the team,” said Griffin.

“I have done my apprenticeship at the Storm under Cameron (Smith) and Cooper (Cronk) and I am ready to play a bigger role with more minutes.

“I am also looking forward to the lifestyle in Newcastle; I’m from a small mining town in New Zealand, so it will be great to come up there and help continue to rebuild the Club.”

General Manager Football Darren Mooney said he’ll be a great addition to the Knights squad.

“Slade will provide versatility and leadership,” Mooney said.

“He will have a great opportunity to really cement a position and further his development as a player.”

Griffin will start with the Club in late November, following a grand final appearance with the Storm.
