Sack Adam O’Brien

Could the Knights demote AOB to an assistant position because of his lack of success , and then promote Brian McDermott to Senior coach. Maybe that way they don't have to pay AOB out. Make him the assistant in charge of filling water bottles. Who cares what he does, just don't let him have input into the teams make-up or game plans. Would they have to play him out in this situation? 🤔

Wouldn’t work for a number of reasons:

- AOB’s contract outlines his role as head coach. The Knights would be breaching his contract by doing what you’re suggesting.
- You simply can’t have a situation where your assistant coach is making more $$ than the head coach, and if the Knights can’t pay out AOB they definitely can’t afford to raise McDermott’s contract to be more than it.
- A coaching combination of AOB and McDermott isn’t working now, it’s not going to suddenly work by changing their titles.
- It’s just weird and awkward for everyone involved.

People want hope.

AOB came here with promise, and generated a lot of hope that the club was finally on the up.

AOB was given plenty of rope with fans, and it's run out. There is very little if any hope left that the Knights are going to turn things around and improve, in fact we have gone backwards and this year are an excellent chance at the spoon again which is unacceptable.

Hope has ran out, time of OB to get out,
It's no more complicated than that huh

Imagine tasking yourself with trying to successfully argue that signing a better coach (than AOB) won't objectively improve every item I listed in my previous post. Lol.

Imagine arguing that keeping AOB around wouldn't negatively impact those items. Lol
You were blaming AOB for every point you made and suggested the players have made no improvements and infact all gone backwards 😂

We are playing terrible but it’s not all solely on AOB. I simply pointed out (with others) how you are incorrect in many points.

Signing a new coach doesn’t mean guaranteed success neither, Brisbane have been just as 💩 under a new and premiership/origin winning coach. They have good halves and elite props. Something we don’t have at all.

Do I think it’s time for AOB to go? Yes. But there is no guarantee they will go better with our current playing group either.

Yep , I'm sure the West board are looking a the Broncos situation & in a way making them apprehensive of giving Obi the flick .But something has to change !

As much as I hate to say it but wests won't pay him out, he will remain for the rest of this season and at least half next season if still struggling.

We are stuck with him for the long haul unfortunately....

I just don't understand his inability of being able to coach and change tactics on the fly. Against the saints we had a much smaller pack yet persisted with the one out hit ups rather than move the ball around and try to tire their pack.

Best idea anyone has come up with yet. Imagine the grand finals we would make then!

We can make a very good case for sacking AOB without the hyperbole.

But the things keeping him at the club, at least for now, don't go away.

Whatever Wests do, they need to ensure they understand all things that have gone wrong over the last 6 years, and that's not just the coach.

Otherwise, the club is doomed to repeating the same mistakes.

PS. Benji is a stretch.
The case for sacking OB was settled several years ago. The only reason we're still discussing it is because what club management and fans consider hyperbole, our competitors consider it a given.

Obviously it isn't codified in law that OBs prospective replacement will improve things. But given the absolute state of things, in what world is it hyperbole to expect that a new coach would very likely improve things? Like, I'm trying to understand the point of contrariness under these circumstances.

Just over a season ago, we had our most successful season since 2013. It's why he was extended.

No, the reason we're still discussing this is because sacking the coach has huge financial implications and comes with its own risks for the club.

It was the criticism that was hyperbolic; pointing out that the situation the club is in is not just on the coach and that replacing him comes with no guarantees, is just dealing in reality.

Like, I'm trying to understand the point of contrariness under these circumstances.
Wests have gotten this wrong twice now. The point of the contrariness is that Wests are doomed to repeat the same mistakes if they don't understand everything that has gone wrong over the last 6 years and learn from their mistakes.

Of course they won’t. If they didn’t sack him when we got flogged at home against the Eels on Gagai’s 300th, no way they’d do it now.

I have a feeling deep down Wests know that AOB isn’t going to help us but they also know that any new coach coming in is on a hiding to nothing so they’ll keep him there to keep taking all the hits at least until they sort the roster a bit.

FTR I’m not one of those saying that no other coach will be able to do any better than AOB with the current roster because I think AOB’s tactics really exacerbate the problems with the roster, but that’s just what I think the club is thinking.

Which negatively impacts our ability to sign playes.... POS ironically(after Brown.) refuses to play overs but we have been beaten to the punch against Dogs and Storm who we allegedly fielded similar offers to players for.

Can't see what incentive there is for players to come here.

This is a purely surface-level statistic but food for thought if we're seeking a polar opposite outcome to AOB-ball.

The two full seasons John Morris had with the Sharks were 2019 and 2020.

In 2019 they finished 7th but had the 6th most points scored with 514, yet were only 19 points behind 4th most points who finished with 533.
In 2020 they finished 8th but had the 4th most points scored.

Again, a purely surface-level statistic that warrants further consideration and the game has changed plenty since that time, but Morris' tenure at the Sharks didn't struggle with point-scoring.

Go read what I wrote again, rather than straw-manning me and putting words in my mouth and then ranting at length in response to things youve fabricated.

That’s definitely an interesting stat. Maybe Morris as head coach with McDermott as defensive coach would be a good combo. 🤔

If that’s the reason than the board members that think that need to go, this is the world of sport where nothing is a given and things can change on a dime.

So are you in favour of sacking the coach or keeping him? No amount of postulation from fans re cost/benefit changes the fact that the choice is black or white. Keep him or sack him.

If you'd like to see him sacked then you're wasting my time with your semantic responses to my posts.

If you'd like to see the club keep him around then be clear about that so we can discuss the merits as a standalone discussion, instead of messy nitpicking
