Round 17 Panthers V Knights - Saturday 24 June 5:30pm - BlueBet Stadium, Penrith

Players should only be as safe as their performances. I remember Rick Stone commenting that he couldn’t relegate guys on the big coin. I wish I could remember which player it was he was being asked about. I feel like it’s the same with AOB. When they sign contracts there should be a stipulation that if they don’t play within a certain bracket of expectation then they can move them on regardless of how many years they’ve signed on for.

There’s absolutely no excuse. Look at Gagai, the guy is in his 13th year and plays like a demon every game. Sure he has the odd blunder but it’s not through lack of trying and even during our 3 wooden spoons he was by far our most determined soldier. Why can’t guys follow his method?

100k for a player with performance based bonus incentives puts the accountability and onus on the individual.

The guys who do more deserve more and the rest can **** off. Mediocrity is a sickness and it’s infectious evidently.
Oh look I understand where your coming from but 100k is chump change. For a "professional athlete" your wanting 200k minimum.

200 for the must have 5 in the team then. They could earn way upwards based on consistent good performances. The idea is guys lift then they get rewarded. I think it’s madness we pay half a mill or more a season for guys who think their soul job is to show up and nothing more.

Remember Jesse Ramien or Tariq Sims for us or Snowden or this Hethrington or even the Safs? There’s millions and millions of dollars that produce sweet **** all. Sick to death of it.

Why is everyone missing my point it’s not rocket science.
The Knights struggle with recruiting quality as it is. Reality is that we won't get much interest in offering minimum salaries, whatever performance incentives are added in that. It puts a lot of financial risk on the player that some won't be interested in if they can get better deals elsewhere.

In an ideal world this (NRL) and every other organisation wouldn’t be run backwards. I understand your point, but if every club worked like this then it wouldn’t matter. Guys would play for their pay is all I’m trying to get across

They’d all go join the Superleague or play union, more like.

If we play like we did last time against the panthers we should win comfortably. We have them covered in the backs and halves, just need our forwards to do there job.

Yeah, we won't have Cleary picking two field goals.

Ps the Cowboys played the Panthers NSW Cup side at home, in Townsville, not in Penrith.. just for full disclosure.

That shows you what they think of the Knights

Nah they do this after origin games every year at some point to give them a rest. No doubt though, they look and the games following the second and third origins and time a rest targetted at their perceived easier opposition.

On the argument of paying blokes on match payments plus incentives, it's pie in the sky stuff and not worth even debating since it's never going to happen. The NRL makes clubs spend their salary cap and teams on match payment plus incentives to bring them up to the cap, you would have all the teams at the bottom of the comp not spending near their cap. Secondly, if a club started this, they simply wouldn't sign anybody and the club would not be able to field a team come round 1. People aren't missing the point, it's just a moot point.

On the Penrith game, they are resting their origin stars, no reason we shouldn't be competing in this, if we turn up with the right attitude and stick at it for the 80.

I wouldn’t say it’s a NSW cup side. Edwards, leota, fisher Harris, Leniu, etc plenty of class players still in that side.

If we bring the effort we did against the Broncos we’ll win. Bring the effort we did against the Chooks and they’ll hammer us even missing all their players.
In short I have nfi what’s gonna happen.
