Round 17: Knights v Bulldogs @ Mackay Stadium

anyone else concerned about boyd? he did NOTHING, he didn't wrap around once and our attack was so one out... why does that happen after a win? we had no bodies in motion in attack... we looked flat... dominated field position for a while but couldnt post points... take the two and the bye get some players back and hopefully push on into the top 4/5 :)
I think the problem was that the Bulldogs were slowing down the play the ball ridiculously, and additionally pushing up really quickly in defence. When this happens, our halves/Boyd won't have the same opportunity they would otherwise. I blame our lackluster offence on the refs allowing the Bulldogs to slow the ruck down too much.

Yeah agree completely, our ruck was slow they were playing the ball so fast compared to us...

Hats off to tets and sims they produced great go forward and some sting in defence whilst on in limited minutes, how good will it be to have some players back from injury and options on bench with in form players,

Sims
Tets
Faaologo
Cuthbertson
Costigan
Houston

We should sneak into the 8 now, which is pleasing.

Obvious now we lost 7 from 8 because Bedsy was hurt and that muppet Waddell was playing. Buderus should have been MOTM. He and Mullen and are a class above.

Mason went crazy, BJ was an animal in defence. Gower off the pace.

Nev had a real dig, seeing as he's looking for a contract. Houston stepped up too. The usual suspects delivered (Snowy, Smith, Rochow, Jimmy).

Was dangerous that Wayne didn't let Tets or Sims on till 55 minutes had passed, that could have bit us in the behind. They were both strong.

Roberts has responded very well to competition, and having a hooker who knows what they're doing.

Still concerning we have $1 million a year tied up in a badly out of form winger and a fullback who would much rather be somewhere else.

Fingers crossed we catch fire in September and shake things up.

EDIT. SJ18 with a nice point. The sooner Mullen decides the Knights are "his" team, the better.

Seriously **** Gagai off he's done nothing all year.

Great someone else brought this up he and uate are terrible this year just me or would tahu and kev be much better.

House was mediocre as was nev aside from that sensational win quickly looking like I'll have egg on my face!

Critical game for our season and we gutted out a great win.

Can't believe the criticism of Gagai.
You are aware he made more metres than any other back on the field (except Barba)?
I thought he showed more heart than any of our other backs today to be honest. Phenomenal effort.

Note: 16 runs for 134 metres.

Gagai not getting any early ball, can't murder him for that.

Gower and Mullen were at fault for two tries. Not sure about Reynolds one...

Gagai was pretty solid I thought bar the knock on, he was definitely up there in the top 3 of our backs today. Boyd & Uate deserve more criticism of their performance than him.

Was good to hear a few people try to get the 'Newcastle' chants going as well, wasn't many red & blue jerseys out there everyone was for the Dogs & Barba.. Hell even the bloke controlling the time was for the Bulldogs they got about 2 runs extra time than they should've all the boys were blowing up over it. Anyone else see as well Willie go up to Darius and try give him a hug & that after the game and he just shrugged him off & stuck to himself, typical Boyd

Gagai has done nothing wrong, a few errors lately but it's hard to create anything when he doesn't get any early ball, just like Uate. And as long as McManus & Leilua keep scoring tries then we don't need to do anything about it yet.

People forget Gagai has only played 30 NRL games... He's inexperienced and people have too much expectation of him because of how well he played last year. He's much more marked this year, and his confidence would be down.

But he's not doing anything too ridiculous, except for maybe a few errors.

I don't think they got any ball at all today except for the one occasion when Beds went down the blindside and threw a cutout to Uate. Apart from that I don't recall them get any ball in backline movements.

Just finished watching the game. Saw Scott out and Houston to start and swore very loudly at the tv. Who woulda thought he would score a double, make a try saver on Barber? And generally play ok
Thought Mullen played awesome, loved seein him tellin players off in the first half
Mason was great, snowey pushed up hard.
I am loving the brutal hits in defense!!!!

They didn't, but I'd much prefer my centre to go sniffing for the ball like Gagai does. He still had 16 carries although most were out of dummy half, he went looking for work which cant be said for other centres in the game who just sit out there and wait... for example Jarrod Croker.

Gagai has that Hodges look about him with his work rate, he just hasn't been able to make those breaks like last year.

A quote from the press conference that gave me a good laugh:

8 all at half time, what was the message to the boys in the sheds?

Wayne: Walk home if you don't win.

Good ol Wayne
