You know I said to my wife at the beginning of the game when Jared Maxwell was announced as the ref that we were gonna get ****** over. Looks like I was right :@

For those of you who didn't see the game on Fox for the first 20-25 minutes the Warriors held on in the tackle too long at least 11 times by my count, got penalised once. Knights held on once got penalised once. Typical Maxwell bias against Knights.

I didn't watch this game on Fox, but from what I hear on the radio, despite the fact that Knights bombed chances and Dureau had a shocker, the Knights have been severely dudded by bad ref decisions all night and at crucial times in the game, the Warriors try in the 2nd half was clearly not a try (apparently the player bounced the ball, and also the strip before leading upto the try). No surprise, especially with Maxwell/Smith as ref/video ref.
 
Maxwell made **** calls against both teams.

The ball did hit Vuna on the back and was offside. And the ball in the last 40 seconds was knocked out forward and should have been a Warriors scrum.

Dropping a ball doesn't make that happen... the whole team is lethargic. It's a dismal 1st half performance.

How Good was Naiqama's conversion? Love his GK style, much better than Kidley's technique.

Are you saying MacDougall and Fa'aoso didn't play well, or what? They were our two best, I thought.

That dropped ball by Lulia was his worst moment, but he was pretty average all game. A couple of times prior to that I thought he just needed to show quick hands to get the ball to Vuna, and we may have gone in, but that didn't happen. Even when MacDougall made the break from our own ten in the second half, if he had passed sooner to Vuna then Vuna may have gone all the way ... there are times when you draw and pass and times when you don't, and on the occasion, Lulia just took open-field away from Vuna.

Maxwell was average.

Newcastle were more average.

Warriors were really good in defence.

They deserved to win by more, to be honest.
 
but what about the first try to the Warriors in the 2nd half (that allowed them to build momentum)? All the commentators I heard said that the Warriors player bounced the ball over the line, and were stunned when Russell "should get another job" Smith awarded a try. And also the previous set of 6 leading to the try, where there was some stripping incident involving Houston that was also botched up. That converted try turned out to be very costly and proved the difference.

I know you guys have probably heard enough crap and whinging about refs this year, yet youll keep hearing it all year. The quality of reffing (across the NRL) is below average, and has been for quite a long time, yet nothing is being done about this. The majority of refs are simply not up to standard, but it doesn't help when you've gotta ref boss (Robert Finch), whos not only not reffed a game, but doesn't know anything about refereeing. That's just like saying that you can cook a better beef steak than Gordon Ramsay, when you've never cooked anything in your life. Of course clubs shouldn't be surprised to see Finch doing nothing about many clubs complaints about referees.

Now, with the offside, I did think that Mullen deliberately put his foot behind, or at least in line with, where Vuna was standing - meaning he was onside.

Perhaps the law has changed in the last year or two, but that shouldn't have been a penalty.

Still, we didn't deserve to win, so no harm done.

Was definitely a try, the ball didn't leave Ah Van's finger. If those were given no tries then we would have had about five of our tries disallowed this year!

It was a tough call against Houston just prior to that, but the right one. And Rovelli definitely knocked on from the kick off.

But the bottom line is the Warriors are by far the worst team in the comp when they are away than home - I'd back Souths to beat them, even - and we just had no intensity or hunger to come out on top, save for the final 10 minutes.

I will say the ref made it a very dull affair with really slow play the balls and an unwillingness to penalise.

That was a fair try, not being biased, but Patrick Ahvan did still have finger tip control on that ball.

I think you need to look again, Mullen was a good 3 metres infront of Vuna :lol: But it only just deflected, which warrants if anything an accidental which is sometimes a scrum - Hence that argument we could have defended our line?

Absolutely, we were pitiful... lacked in everything tonight. Worst game of the year... just boring and we never looked like winning it until the 70th minute... League is an 80 minute game.

I'm surprised any commentators would even debate that it wasn't a try, it was 100% a try.

Russell Smith might take a while up in the box some of the time, but he almost always gets them right.
