Interesting quote from Crossland in the Toohey article this morning about him having to step up when Mann was out and him riding the team as hard as he could.
Leadership is what we needed, and the second youngest kid (behind Best) stepped up and gave it as best he could.
I thought he had a real good dig at being the boss out there. I particularly liked an early bit in the game I saw, where he was barking orders and pointing directions, then shoving Barnett into position. It was good to see him not being afraid to put his hand up for the job

Anyone bagging Crossland after yesterday’s performance has rocks for brains. He stood up a lot and took leadership as a half should which is more than impressive for his age. His kicking game has been better than Pearce, Mann and Green put together. He actually gave time for his chasers to get to the kick and made Manly work out of their own 10 metre zone instead of gifting the opposition their first tackle on the 30m line. Gave us a few repeat sets too which we hardly ever see. Just needs to ice a few more key scoring plays and he’ll be better for the run.

Watson was outstanding again. This guy should be our number one priority to re-sign, WELL AHEAD of Mann. Chuck him in anywhere and he just competes and does a job. Jones also. I think he should be taking Fitz’s starting spot.

Clifford should be partnering Crossland next week which is exciting too but we’re going to be, yet again, down on a lot of troops knowing our luck. Possibly no Klem, Ponga, Frizell, Hoy. Pearce, Hunt and Lee are still unknowns. Mann should be in reggies as far as I’m concerned.

Absolutely spot on Matty23 as per usual. Outstanding prospect for a kid having played so few games and stepping up to run the side. Sign him today Phil pease!

It absolutely appalls me the kid being called an 'arsehole' and players being called rubbish and garbage. Obviously quite a few posters have had limited footie experience and/or knowledge.

I've been on the internet for 20 years or more, but it still amazes me that you have to put in a million disclaimers for every single thing you say.
I just assume that any rational human being would know that if I said a 20 year old with 8 games of firstgrade went well, I meant for a 20 year old kid with 8 games of firstgrade, but you just have to spell it out.

What I write = a 16 year old kid had a great game.
What I mean = had a great game for a 16 year old kid.
What people on the net read = 16 year old kid is the next immortal.
its the strawman argument technique that is everywhere....

When Pearce comes back maybe 7 Clifford/Pearce 6 Pearce/Clifford and 3 Crossland , the kid has stepped up and i would want to keep him on the field somewhere. He would go well at centre imo he has all the skills and his defence is good , i would rather him in the halves but how do you do that with Pearce and Clifford here .

I did notice we slid way better from the inside on d in this one. You could see Manly throw the ball wide early a couple of times and the inside defenders really worked hard. Hopefully they also see it isn’t that hard

an interesting tactic out of the game was that Crossland tried 2 or 3 times to get Saab and Musgrove into an aerial contest, and Musgrove nearly pulled it off at least once.
It seemed incredibly optimistic, but Musgrove has an impressive leap on him, and maybe Saab has never had to do that in defence because no one gives themselves a chance against the tallest winger in the comp.

I voiced my opinion on this heavily. If this was a tactic why not try get it over the top of the halves head and have Musgrove running an in line. Seemed silly at the time.
