Well that was a nice surprise to watch when I got home … I think overall we just played with a bit of grit and composure for once! Manly were definitely off their game and we got some lucky calls from the ref, but deserved winners … I’ll take the two points for sure.
Was happy to see Jones get a decent amount of time out there for once, too.

Looked to me DCE and turbo were holding back, saving themselves for origin.
Crossland went well for a backup, but some people on here talking him up like he's the second coming of johns.

I've been on the internet for 20 years or more, but it still amazes me that you have to put in a million disclaimers for every single thing you say.
I just assume that any rational human being would know that if I said a 20 year old with 8 games of firstgrade went well, I meant for a 20 year old kid with 8 games of firstgrade, but you just have to spell it out.
What I write = a 16 year old kid had a great game.
What I mean = had a great game for a 16 year old kid.
What people on the net read = 16 year old kid is the next immortal.
Don't get your knickers in a twist if somebody doesn't share the same opinion as you.
That I was mate, not saying he’s a star, but coming along nicely for a young fella thrown in the deep end by being given the lead role in steering the team around with not much help. I’d like to see him get another contract and some time to work his way inI
I think Listo is taking the Pi$$ mate and is firmly on the Crossland bandwagon. Which I think we all are; just at varying degrees. I think he went well all considering.
Not sure I’d take him over DCE though

A win is a win, a surprise win is magic and that’s what we got, lucky in some ways, refs decisions seemed to go our way but we have had them go against us so all square.
My assessment for what it’s worth is as follows, 1 Hoy, cops lots, better than Mann, played well, don’t recall any major errors causing us points, was always about. 2 Toa, scored a good try, played strong had some problems with Tuala inside defensively. 3 Tuala, has a lot of problems on right side, should only play left but had a fair game. 4 Best tried hard, contained well, always looked dangerous, defence good. 5 Musgrove, needs to improve, tries hard, doesnt let you down but lacks attacking potential. 6 Watson, what can I say, not a Watson fan but at 6, and with freedom played well and strong, looked dangerous and tackled well. 7 Crossland, late drop out of Ponga and Mann what did we expect of a young inexperienced 7, we actually got more, played well, kicked well and tried some things different, he’s our 7 till Pearce is back. 8 Klem, solid but could pass shortly after receiving ball, makes big metres but is not dangerous. 9 Brailey our unsung hero, not his best game but always in our top 5, 10 DanS where have you been, better show, 11 Frizell think his stats and effort say enough. 12 Fitz, he is hot and cold, needs to fix those silly errors. 13 thought Barnett was tops for first section of game, combination with DSaf was excellent, replaced and not quite same on comeback. 17-19, JSaf was good, strong runs, Sue, glad to see him score, in the right place at right time, plays above due to effort. Jones, played very well, strong runs and tackles should be playing 12 or 13. King, limited time but consistent with effort.

Hoy has had 6 games at fullback this year. 4 have been pretty good. 1 he was having a bad game and got injured after 40 minutes. 1 was just a bad game.
Any other time in Knights history we'd be really happy to have a young fullback who has mostly good games, but Hoy is like those young halves who had to step into Joey's shoes when he was injured - always going to look way worse than the guy he replaces. Hoy's best game would probably be about equal with Ponga's worst, but many, many fullbacks we have had in the past have never had a game that good, let alone in their first half dozen games at fullback.

Our major problem with injuries to star players such as Ponga, Pearce, Lee, Hunt besides who replaces them is the comparison and expectation.
i remember my working days, now retired telling my bosses when filling in for my direct boss how much easier it would be if my second in charge was as good as me. Not a bragging comment but a fact. If you lose a star, brilliant player then those around them will not be as good if they had a Ponga, Pearce playing with them.
Sometimes we are to harsh and expect too much from those suddenly pushed into grade when those around them are not performing as well as might due to the loss of class due to injury etc.

Fair, but if your next cab off the rank from the NRL quality player, and you are not ready, well what are you doing there.
We never seem to have any young NRL ready players waiting in the wings, biding there time to get a shot.
We tend to have young players who never seem to be ready to step up. Brodie Jones is the only one I recall of late that stepped up and looked suited to first grade straight up.
Im sure that says more about our junior development and recruitment than the player themselves though.

I think we shut him down pretty well, you could hear through the mic the Knights players were yelling 'Turbo'.
It was great to see us not drop the ball in the opposition's 20 for most of the game. We just need to work on on our attack especially in the backline. If anything, we have shown we can defend - catch is we can only defend if we are desperate

Interesting quote from Crossland in the Toohey article this morning about him having to step up when Mann was out and him riding the team as hard as he could.
