Round 1 - Sharks vs Knights - 7:45pm Thursday 2 July - Ocean Protect Stadium

Sidney Taylor was obviously the one who surprised the most, but 19 year old Mercedez Taulelei-Siala also had a great game. I was really impressed with her when she played for Samoa, but not so much with us last year.
She was rock solid in this game - best she has played IMO - and doesn't turn 20 till September.

Very powerful coming out of her end and defensively put some hits on too.

Tidy up some execution on attack like not being in front of Lily for the potential try and she'll have a good year.

Loved the confidence the team showed, Lily is usually one who can break easy mentally from mistakes, from her injury and drop ball, thought that'd be it but she powered through well. Mercedez as mentioned confident to take on Sharks winger when she came charging at her from a kick return and threw her off. Fane was super aggressive as was Sidney and Pasikala.

Looks like a happy group and a strong 7 or so weeks they've been together.

Just catching up now. Sidney Taylor looks like a real home run signing in an area where the team has been well off the pace, the truly elite athletes who can get a team rolling downhill. Young Mercedes too. Both look like upgrades on Gallagher who was arguably previously our best at that (her or Tenika). Combine them with the machines in the back row and Dibb's boot, this team should be able to grind most others down, and that's still the name of the game in NRLW for all but the top two teams. But if Lily continues to improve, there's a bit of strike to go with that now, given Sidney also looks like a real weapon, Tenika's a very good centre, and we all ready know about Yaz and Finau.

Predebon got on top of the Sharks forwards because I think once you put the platform around her everywhere else she's a scary icing on that cake with her size and strength.

Missing the roosters game isn't the worst thing.

We will probably need to improve all season to be at the level the Roosters are at.
