One reason that it’s plausible too is that Jackson and Lachlan are on pretty similar salaries. Which, yes, makes it even funnier that Souths weren’t willing to pony up for a second year of Reynolds because it’s such a similar amount of money.
So you’ve got one club with a halfback who’s also a utility who can cover lock and hooker, but who probably can’t get back in the side because he’s so on the nose with the leadership group. Another club with a halfback who’s requested permission to look elsewhere (and by the looks of it didn’t get massive interest, probably because he’s on a decent wicket and he’s coming back from a broken leg) because said club has just paid big money for a new halfback from England who’s set to take over their job. The former halfback has been told he’s free to look elsewhere and the latter halfback has had the request to look elsewhere agreed to and been told that if he decides to stay on at his other club, he’ll have to take on a utility role, but he probably doesn’t want to do that
I’m not saying I think it’s Peter’s #1 option, but it makes a lot of sense that it would have been discussed. Saves both clubs dropping a pretty fair salary on a player who’ll be consigned to NSW Cup all year. Both clubs get a player they’ll be able to actually use. I’m not sure it would require a contract extension on either end to go through.
