Remember that random player?

Holbrook was understudy to a kid named A. Johns when he won the Dally M and didn't get many games.
He probably learnt a lot.

I actually crazily enough remember a Holbrook that played a handful of games for us and being in the team lineups when Johns didn't play but wasn't sure if it was the same guy. Funny how things turn out for some guys.

Then you get guys like John Morris (also a former knight) who were also pretty mediorce players but were 'utilities' so they were able to bounce around from clubs and managed to rack up 300 games.

Neil Piccinelli, you would only remember the bloke if you watched him play...probably forgotten about by many but played a season with the Knights and I remember a game against Balmain he scored a few handy tries, we won 32-16 or something like that and the conditions were pretty horrific and muddy. I remember one of our guys had to come off because he had so much mud on his face he had to go get it wiped off by a trainer.
98 we also had a pretty horrific injury toll so it made sense to see guys like him in the team.

These were also the days before the internet so you just remembered certain players off the TV or from the paper...

Army boys
Yeah.
Only two I can remember.
Hall was an Airman at Williamtown and playing in the real NRL when we picked him up and got leave to join us, so technically still a serving serviceman.
Jesse Royal was a cook in the NZ army and did a tour in East Timor. He actually started playing League for the NZ Army and was so good at it he gave it a try when he left the Army.

I remember that game, it was my 11th Birthday and all I wanted for a present was to go to my uncles house and watch it on Foxtel lol

Neil Piccinelli was a very underrated back rower who had a solid first grade career for the Illawarra Steelers back in the 80's and 90's - a lanky player who would tackle all day and do the tough hit ups...not as big in the upper body as Guerra but had the same sort of motor. He also used to be a back up goal kicker for them, when Rod Wishart wasn't available. He was one of those solid journeymen players you needed in your side that did their job well and was always consistent

Apparently offered a decent 6 figure contract by Souths in the late 90's after his season at the Knights but walked away from football for his family...https://www.rugbyleagueproject.org/players/neil-piccinelli/summary.html

I don't know if Foxtel had all the games back then but I definately remember watching it on Channel 9 as that was all I had at the time.

Sione Tovo was/is a cousin of Tevita Pangai. His full name is Sione Pangai Tovo.

Interesting fact, our best performer in the gym now is Jirah Momoisea.

How about Matt Minto, a successful halfback from the QLD Cup, Bennett tried to turn him into a Boyd clone for fullback. Only played a couple games before we decided to go with the more non conventional but exciting option in a young Jake Mamo.

Some games were exclusive to Optus Vision as well, also not footy related but does anyone remember the Newcastle/Central Coast/Illawarra exclusive Pay TV service East Coast TV from 1996 until around 1998 when it got sucked up for Foxtel/Austar?

At one stage NBN were paying Foxtel to show the Knights games except where Channel 9 were showing the game live. Uncle Rupe put a stop to that.

That's a good one, completely forgot him and can't picture him for the life of me.

And Jake Mamo is he still running around the ESL?

Nathan Hinton played 7 games.
I think he only played as a winger and his position was fullback all through the grades.
He was our best player for his agegroup all through the grades and we needed a fullback, but he never got a go for some reason.
Up till a few years ago he was still kicking around in the real NRL.
