We are filling holes in the squad of players on a round $300k contracts so need to find options at around that same price

Difference would be Mirata is 29 and probably get him for $300-400k for 2 years

Barney is a week away from 32 and would have had to be 3 years at around $600-700k to come close to other options on table

Simply better quality for salary cap balance even if Barnett is a more accomplished player
 
I don’t love it at that price but established first graders come at a premium. I can see it if he’s coming immediately and we have the space to fit him in, he’d be handy. I’m worried if his salary is already locked in for 2028 because for me that’s a critical transition season where we want to keep space open & make informed decisions about who to extend.

But whatever, it’s not my money. It’ll be judged on results.
 
I would be keen to see Hopwood and some of our other younger guys playing next to Niukore. He would make any defensive misreads they make easier to clean up and help teach them more.
 
"Not cheap" is vague and could mean anything, really. There was no frame of reference to base the comment off.

Haven’t seen any suggestion that an immediate move is on the cards yet other than some wishful thinking on here. Stranger things have happened but he still seems to be in their top side at full health.

If the Warriors wanted a player swap for Barnett for a compassionate release, then I can’t see them releasing Niukore this season.

Really makes you wonder why they didn't pay Barnie the 700k odd he was seemingly happy with. Assuming that 'not cheap' means 500k or thereabouts? Otherwise what's the point in making the comment.
 
I’ll wait to hear what the terms are but if he’s going to be primarily an edge he’s not a $500K+ player.

POS always chases untapped potential and will bet pretty big on it, if the money is indeed $600K+ I suspect it means he thinks there’s some elite middle enforcer juice in there waiting to be squeezed. He certainly does hit hard in D.

Like the brown deal POS is banking on a massive cap increase by then i reckon. the market will go nuts when the broadcast deal is done and any handy players you have lockup now for 27 onwards may look like bargains.

If we’re already pretty deep in negotiations with Niukore, might be a bit of a bad look which puts you in a bad spot with the agent going forward to pull the plug on them so opportunistically. You’d want to be very confident it was in exchange for a slam dunk. Because next time you talk to that agent there’s just a little less trust after the rug pull.

We also only have conjecture on what Barnett wanted from us and he ended up allegedly getting over $800K from Brisbane, have no proof he didn’t want that from us too.
