Hopefully all minimum wage type signings. Don't wanna be wasting first-grade money on these types of guys.

Toohey says Heighington is keen to come and will take a 1 year deal, which sounds ideal to me.
That would give us Heighington and Paea for 2017, and we can either replace them with young guys like Amey and Saulo for 2018 if they are ready, or replace them with younger imports if that is the way to go.
I'm glad we seem to have passed on Will Smith. Everyone here talks about Pat having brainsnaps, but Will has triple the amount, and seems to have them at exactly the wrong time - like on the 6th tackle when we are a chance to score. The guy has skills, but his stupid decisions drive me crazy.

Wouldn't be angry at Heighton and Starling on short, cheap contracts. We aren't challenging for anything but the wooden spoon next year, but I wouldn't mind having some more players to challenge for spots and lift some players games a little.

What is bloody point of signing these terrible players. In what way could Heighington or Starling improve us?

They aren't the players we want for 2018 and beyond, but if we can't get the players we want, we still need to spend the salary cap and fill the roster - so one year for experienced guys fits the bill.

Yes no other options, yes we will suck again, but regardless on breaking bank to land Vaughan etc we won't win angf next season, so will just have to remain patient for 2018

We couldn't win a game in reserves last year either, so we need some experienced NRL players on board. Cheap players adding depth. Nothing wrong with that.

Hopefully guys like Josh King, Braidie Smith, Pauli Pauli, Pat Mat, Lachlan Fitzgibbon, Uiti Baker, Luke Yates and Tyron Amey will see it as their job to force these guys into reserve grade by the end of 2017 - or face the chop themselves, because those guys all have about 1 more season to earn a firstgrade spot - a few of them might not even get another season, because Brown has to cut up to 10 guys from the 2016 squad I think.

According to Wikipedia he's signed with Widnes for $500k over 3 years.

At 26 his really at the age where props hit their peak I personally don't understand why manly cut him he actually looked decent from what I've seen, I would like us to sign him on a 1 to 2 year deal see how he goes

Start of the year side

1 New signing
2 Elliot
3 Gagai
4 Pete
5 Ross
6 Lamb
7 Hodkinson
8 Dan Saifiti
9 Kostjaysyn
10 Mataora
11 Sione
12 Buhrer
13 Heighington

14 Mullen
15 Jake Saifiti
16 Barnett
17 Korbin

Heighington would save the safitis copping a bashing as much.

By playing 20 minutes a game and having no impact whatsoever? The guy was once a decent player but that was about 8 years ago. He's a sh*t player in a good team, if he comes here he'll be a sh*t player in a sh*t team.

It's just wasted salary cap that could be used to attract a quality player in the future but Brown knows he needs to show improvement in 2017 to a) make the club more attractive to potential recruits and b) try not to get run out of town.
