Pacific Championships 2025

Wow, I hope he fully recovers with time.
A very unfortunate set of circumstances, that in hindsight, could have been avoided.
A review of workplace safety is required asap.
All the best to him, his family and carers.
The rules arent broken, they just weren't followed. And it was a freak accident. That type of injury rarely occurs and if the rules had been followed, they probably couldve prevented it

Just watching this on Fox about Eli Katoa.
They show the head knock in the warm-up, and then a trainer checking on him,
Surely the trainer should have notified the medical staff to check him?
The video also mentions Eli said he wanted to play.

Just have to hope he has a good quality of life at this stage. Don’t think we’ll ever see him on the field again.

Really makes no difference if he wanted to keep playing. I go to a Doctor if I have a medical issue coz I don’t have any expertise in diagnosing them. Add a heavy concussion to that and any self-medical assessment players are capable of is going to be even less reliable.

It just needed one person to see that footage, I was going to post on here early in the game when they showed it, asking how on earth he was allowed to be out there. Decided not to coz I thought it might look like some pro-Kiwis anti-Tonga bias lol. But I find it really hard to believe it was being shown on tv, yet nobody on the Tonga staff had any clue about what had happened.

Yeh.
I can’t understand how I was able to see replays of it, and say “oh boy, he’s knocked out there” from my home, but nobody else had access to the footage.

I mentioned it before, but I’m genuinely curious, did he think he was good? (Not that his opinion matters if he thinks he’s good to play.) BUT, what if he knew he wasn’t any good to play? Do players feel empowered enough to look past the desire to play, and say “hey, I copped a head knock”.

maybe this unfortunate incident can help change the way some players view their head knocks.
