(NSW Cup) Centurions Discussion 2010 Thread

The Knights site says this will be at EAS - but everything else i've seen says it's at Morrie Breen oval (Wyong) at 1.30 on Saturday - so those driving down to Gosford could take in this game on the way down.

Love how the Reserve grade teams look so strong in round 1. haha, come round 10 itll probably be full of nuffies. And to think Nadaira (DeGois), McDonnell (Gidley), Uate/Vuna (McManus), Wicks, Taufua (Housten), Naiqiama, Karawana and Fa'aso/Tolar could have been in that side too.

Full Strength would look like this;

1. McDonnell
2. Uate
3. Lulia
4. Naiqama
5. Naiqama
6. Rogers
7. Nadaira
8. Tolar
9. Adams
10. Edwards
11. Mika
12. Ciraldo
13. Taufua

14. Fruean
15. Wicks
16. Karawana
17. Tovo

18. Abraham

Looks almost better then some FG squads we fielded in 05 and 07

well, it's like this, we had this coach right and in seasons 2007&2008 he swept a broom through the place and got rid of a lot of players but then never adequately replaced them...

Well thats depth, this weeks side looks nothing like that.

1 Jimmy Fawcett - went OK at fullback, but was stepped twice when he went to the wing
2. Trent Walker - totally outplayed and was taken off early - replaced by Fawcett on the wing (needed someone to outjump Duffie) and Naiquama went to fullback
3. Byron Fruean - carried off injured - replaced by Dargan
4. Simon Williams - several good runs, but let himself down with stupid passes
5. Kevin Naiqama - very dangerous every time he handled - our best back in Centurions
6. Ben Wyborn - a good running 5/8 - not that we need another one
7. Joel Taufa'ao - didn't play - replaced by Joel Burraston who looks tiny in this grade, but had some nice touches
8. Joel Edwards - much more mobile and much longer minutes in him - but looks too small to play prop now. I'd like to see him try second row
9. Chris Adams - a few mistakes in him, but great defense and great workrate
10. Sione Tovo - just bangs the ball up 10 straight metres and tackles those who run at him
11. Daniel Abraham - not his best game, but tried to do some playmaking and lift the boys
12. Corey Vlaciky - only a little guy, but works hard
13. Lucas Miller - looked OK when on, but didn't play big minutes this week
Interchange
14. Jarrod Tua - didn't play - issac Dargan played instead - went OK
15. Alex McMillan - improving a lot - i'd like to see him get a run in NYC
16. Kirran Shearer - didn't play
17. Matt Croker - only played 30 minutes maybe, but he really put in a big effort when on. I suspect he is under instructions to play hard for a short period
18. Shaun Boss - just ok at this level

We lost 26 - 10.
The game was actually fairly even in the forwards, but the high ball to the wing where Walker (same size as Justin Ryder) was matched against Duffie (can out jump Falou) made it a non contest in the backs. Duffie put on a leap that would have beat anyone in firstgrade, and Walker never got off the ground - i swear i could see sky between Walker's head and Duffie's feet.

Coach: Rip Taylor

Not sure if I like what is happening with Justin Smith.
I agree that Neenan Simpson is a match winner in NYC, but he isn't a lot better than the much younger Smith, and Smith is a decent chance at growing into a firstgrader in a few years - while I really don't think Simpson will grow.
Both of them are schoolboy champions, and Smith was outstanding in the trials for Centurians.
In short, i wouldn't put Smith up against seniors when he could be playing NYC.
He is an outstanding prospect and we should be looking after him.

for a second i thought it was former NRL player Justin Smith , played for St George, Souths and the Cowboys.

Was Abraham injured for this game?

Gosh, well you certainly couldn't put much of a case forward for promoting any of these players to firsts when they come up with a result like that. That's a disgraceful performance.

Well the is a total of about 5 or 6 NRL games experience in that side (Tovo and Mika the only two i can see), so I dont think many would be pressing for a FG spot.

There's been plenty wanting Mika and Naiqama in first grade ... of course you can't judge individual performance just from the scoreline, but it's not going to do their chances any good.

It's safe to assume they didn't have blinders!
