NSW Cup 2025

Great try by Francis M
Running like a winger now.
Huge wrecking ball with skills and speed

14 - 22 - length of the field intercept by a very fast winger - outran Sutton and Hunt who are both quick

He's still way too young to make a call on where he ends up but I've been huge on Matt Arthur since that u19s Origin game last year, looked a class above despite still needing to fill out his body.

The circumstances in which he fell into our lap were extremely fortunate and obviously exceptionally rare, there's a reason the Eels had him as their NSW Cup captain at 19 years of age even after his dad left the club.

Long-term I think there's every chance that Phoenix becomes our first-choice 13, his combined development at 9 and 7 holds him in great stead for that role - in the meantime I'm sure he will remain starting at 9 and shift to 13 mid-game as Arthur becomes capable of first-grade minutes.

18 - 22
another line break to Francis M and he used his passing skills to set up Annan.
What a game he is having

I maintain that Crossland isn't a 9. He does a fair impersonation of one but his ball game has massive deficits.

He'd be an unreal 14 - 13 - 9 for us. But we need a classy ball playing and running hooker if we want to go anywhere near a premiership

We probably lose off one of the clearest double movements of all time. Once again hopefully not a sign of things to come.

Lost 24 - 26

There was plenty to like about what we showed, but we bombed so many tries with impatient plays - dogs played pretty well for the last 15 - we did too.
It was a quality game for that last 15.

  • Kyle McCarthy 18'
  • Taj Annan 37'
  • Francis Manuleleua 46'
  • Taj Annan 59'
  • Riley Jones 63'
If Manuleleua can get the errors out of his game he will be better than McEwen,
Size and strength of a prop, speed of a winger, passing game of a half.
Bombed a heap of tries.

Love that Arthur has the confidence to go for the big plays in those moments. Happened a few weeks ago when he took a gamble going for a 40/20 out of dummy half and only just missed, today got into first receiver and and did a cross field chip kick from inside his own 10m and this time it worked.

Manuleleua is the story from that game though.

Sounds like there may be a path to first grade for him as an impact bench middle initially maybe?

I’ve only seen highlights but his athleticism reminds me of Leniu.

He can be a well paid 14. Arthur just looks a more dangerous attacking player. He’d also be a dangerous 14 coming on after 25 minutes.
I guess if he’s playing 25 of hooker then 30 of lock that’s squeezing two $250K players into one body…
