NRLW Recruitment & Retention Thread

I think Butler must be staying.
If Butler were going we would have thrown her money at Davison I think.

They have updated the profiles.
Moran, Strange and Davison have been removed.
Jones and Carter are in but no Vallance or Luschwitz
Butler and Gallagher are still there

With Jefferies pretty much locked in, I see the Cowboys haven't locked up China Polata. She looked pretty raw for the Cowboys, but she'd solve our hard running winger problem.
Her on one wing and Gallagher on the other would give us some go forward.

Mia Middleton isn't signed either.

No surprise Moran has dropped off the radar....she was a significant liability in defence and it was clear she would never develop that side of her game to an NRLW level for mine

And Evie Jones is probably the best 18 year old halfback coming through and a like for like replacement.
If Moran is still local she should be our reserve grade half though. I saw her lead the Maitland side to the Koori knockout title and she was as dominant at that level as any half could be.

Tamerah Leati is the other winger we still have on our books too. She did a solid job at wing and FB for Samoa in Pacific Cup

Don’t know how chummy Jefferies was with any of that squad.

Yeah, I have no problem with her attacking capability Billy but she is not even strong enough to be rated as a turnstile at NRLW standard for mine. It's as much an attitude thing for Moran, as it is a technical capability or confidence to even have a go.

I could very easily see her shining in the Koori knockout but that comp is renowned for is low expectations in having any sort of defensive focus/expectation of the players

A change to the profiles today.
It took me a while to work it out - they have moved Kia from the backs to the forwards.

Would love some squad announcements. Mostly for the younger squads. Only a month until 1st rounds of juniors.

I thought this was Mariah Denman from the Broncos at first glance, but I see she's much younger. That would be a signing coup. I see the Broncos haven't tied up Denman yet.

If Butler & Gallagher being there yesterday is an indicator they've re-signed then we're at 24/24 spots filled so don't get your hopes up

Think they’re going to aim to bring through more juniors then recruiting. If they can get a big name here and there they will, but with the system already set in place for a few years I’d be expecting a few players taking most spots. Replacing Davison probably biggest one this year.

When warriors and western Sydney teams come in 25 we’ll be relying mostly on local talent. Potentially loose Roach to NZ and Gallagher, Butler and Maynard to Sydney. So we’ll need locals with no accomdation issues. Was why I was surprised on Mia Middletown and Bree Chester to have left.

There is a girl that looks a lot like Taneka Todhunter in the Herald photos in the same photo as Rima Butler.
NRLW signings tracker says she had a development deal for parra in 2023 but doesn't say she has been renewed.
She played for Ron Griffiths' Maitland side in the Koori knockout and I thought she was the best player in the grandfinal.
She is from Moree and played for Parra, so she would have no link to Maitland that I can see.
She is a classy second row.

Gallagher has signed for 2 more years.
She might have been waiting for a face to face with the new coach before signing.
I'd like to see her tried in a few different positions now that she knows the game a bit.
She has the size and fitness to play anywhere on the field, and she's really keen in defence as well.
She'd be a hell of a weapon as a wide running second row.

Great to have her for 2 more years, I f she develops as fast as she did in 23 she'll be a wonderful player but also be up for some big $$ from new teams or even Parra/Tigers after 25.

She a surprising speed, not super fast but good enough to make some havoc at FB. I think Clydesdale started on wing in her career, so no reason Gallagher couldn't go same path, Id day she has a bigger frame then Yas now.

Defence and fitness on edge would be the difference, also no idea what her talents are with ball in hand. Plenty of time to learn though.

What a great re-signing. This woman could be anything!

Article in the Herald says some players, including some top-liners, have asked to be allowed to play in the Qld state comp starting soon, since the NSW comp has been delayed to start at the same time as the NRLW. No names were given, but the article points out that Tamika Upton is from central Qld and has previously played for Central Qld Capras. The players want to get match fit before the 3 game SOO series, which will be played before the NRLW season.
The article says other players could play in the Newcastle women's comp which starts in April.
Parr says he is not against the girls playing football but conditions must be met first.

The Newcastle comp already has Newcastle Wests and Wyong Roos fielding women's teams, so a lot of our girls and a lot of Roosters players would find a team easily. They are also sponsered by Oporto Chicken and have a deal with BarTV to webcast games, and teams like Maitland are set to join this year.

If Jesse Southwell, Lilly-Ann White and Evie Jones need game time, they are all young enough to play Tarsha Gale next week. That would be a hell of an under 19s spine 1 Lilly-Ann White, 6 Evie Jones, 7 Jesse Southwell.
