NRLW Recruitment & Retention Thread

I'm a bit surprised Lily White didn't get a better offer somewhere else.
The way she glides through the line reminds me of Tamika and we don't need another Tamika, while there must be other clubs very keen to have one.
Having said that, Lily makes far too many handling errors at this stage of her career, so she needs to improve on that.

Saw on the news that Moran won’t be re-signed but that’s not surprising. Pretty sure Davison is staying in NZ. I’d imagine Gallagher is the priority. Hopefully they’re putting together a long term deal for her. After that I guess it depends whether Rima takes up her option on who else re-signs. Was hoping they might chase another good forward but they might not have room for one.
Surely the new coach should be announced soon too?

Davison & Strange rumoured to have signed with Roosters

Strange is no real loss but it looks like we'll be light on outside backs depth again next season. Was a miracle to get through all 11 games this season with the same back 5 - don't like our chances of doing it again.

Losing Davison is a bummer.

Well last year we lost 5 or 6 really good players in Manzelman, Boyle, Dibb etc etc etc and still went back to back.

But we also picked up some very good players in Butler, Gallagher, Maynard, Roche, Roache.

We don't seem to have many spots, but I'm hoping we have a few quality signings lined up and the new coach will get to announce them.

Be pretty peeved to lose Davison especially to the roosters. Winning back to back premierships not good enough? Maybe why Tiano got resigned as I thought she was released by what her socials showed. Carter will hopefully stay with us long term, but is a qlder so potential to be brought back home. Have to start looking at who our junior forwards and backs are as I think that is what they are going to aim high for as a club. Big junior nursery of players who want to stay.

This article implies that the shakeup to the NSW women's comp means that it runs concurrent with the NRLW and after Tarsha Gale, which means our NSW cup side should be made up of our NRLW squad not needed for the top 17, our development players and the best of our Tarsha Gale team. I suppose they might use a few experienced senior local players to round out the squad.

As it says in the article, it's been hard for Tarsha Gale players to mover into the senior ranks because NSW cup sides have largely been made up of NRLW players and the leap has been too great, but this gives them a pathway to the seniors.

That’s really disappointing if we’ve lost Davison to the Roosters. Thought she was turning into a pretty good player. Physically she’s also the type of forward I think we need more of too, tall and athletic.

I completely understand someone like Millie going to the Roosters given the media opportunities etc but as for lower ranked players. What’s the appeal? No fans, play in empty stadiums, choking when it matters, much more expensive to live. Plus, I’m sure Wests are perfectly capable in regards to helping with employment etc

Not real fussed on losing Strange but thought she improved as the season went on. Will be really pissed if we lose Gallagher though.

I’m not real up to date on the younger players coming through. Do we have many good options in the forwards and outside backs?

Tylah vallance looks a solid winger from what I’ve seen in limited viewings. Charlotte Barnswick is a Tarsha Gale player who made the origin squads for under 19’s this yr.

Gallagher is living with Georgia roach so looks to be still with us this yr.

That article on the new lower grades structure has been updated to include a Country women's open age comp to run at the same time as Tarsha Gale.
I assume Newcastle will have a lower Hunter and an upper Hunter side as we do with Johns and Daley cups - so about 40 open age players for the new coach to look at before the NRLW season.

Plus side is Jacinta Carter seems to be sticking around. Hopefully she takes up the spot and has a big year. She has loads of potential.

Going to beyond devastated and a tad pissed if Davison sign with Roosters. Sign with Chokers instead of staying with back to back premiers. I have no doubts she'll sign on to the NZ womens team when they are re-admitted. But rumours of her going to Chooks is pretty frustrating.

Jasmine Strange's social seem to point at her leaving too. Not a massive loss but was a solid player in the end.

We probably didn't have the money for Davison.
She went from being worth minimum wage to worth a decent contract over the season, and with us having a lot of cap tied up with long term signings, we wouldn't have much for her.

Article on Jules Kirkpatrick that says she is 3 months post surgery for an ACL and is doing rehab 3 days a week. She says she will be back in the early rounds of the NRLW, which seems very optimistic to me.
Another article in the herald today says there will be player tryouts in the US for both male and female players associated with the NRL games in Vegas. Parr says he is interested and sees Newcastle as a great place to train someone up. He doesn't say it, but it sounds like it would be outside the salary cap. I think male players would be too hard, but Sheridan Gallagher showed last year that it's still possible to train up a great female athlete to NRLW standard in 1 off season. I'd be happy to see us get a couple of quality athletes outside the salary cap.

Strange was pretty good in defence and had cut out the dumb errors by the end of the season but just has no agility or speed off the mark which is pretty crucial for a winger/centre.
