NRL Round 9 - Knights Vs Rabbitohs - 2:00pm Sunday, 3rd of May - McDonald Jones Stadium

Mooney needs to stop being a cat and have a massive game, can't rely on JSaf to carry that forward pack.

I have been pretty impressed by Hopwood for a young bloke.
Mooney is probably best suited to 2 year contracts. 3 years is too conformable for the bro. Some guys just need to fear something more than they fear the opposition in order to play their best footy.

Not quite sure why so many people have been so quick dismiss Souths, are they beatable? Probably, are we likely to beat them? Probably not tbh. Only lost 2 games this season so far, have completed well in every game and have a dynamic attack, all things we've struggled with so far this season. Coupled with a fairly solid record away at Newcastle, I'm not confident even with returning troops.

I am more scared of Souths than I was of Penrith(Thought we'd get heavily beat also.) Trell is untouchable ATM.

Souths going into this one with confidence. Another tough game. Will be Brown, McEwen, Gags, Dom to try and contain there left side. Gags having a foot injury is not ideal, as he’s been pretty quite the last couple of games.

The main thing is we need to stop the constant errors. We still have them in us as a team. But we have had games were we have been good. Still not a consistent team yet.

Souths are more hot/cold than the other good teams we've played. They might blow us away if they're on. They're coming off an emotional high though and I don't think their fundamentals are as strong as the other teams we've struggled with. It's winnable.

This is crazy, no offence. Like being more scared of a wolf than a grizzly bear.

Yeah the Bunnies aren’t a patch on the Panthers, particularly their pack. Confident our blokes will hold our own especially if Friz is back.

Souths will also give you a lot more chances than Penrith. Trell has been great but coming up against the kid from Melbourne and a ridiculously over the hill Holmes (who is the worst defensive centre in the game atm) even busted Gags will put up a much bigger fight than those 2.

Can’t underestimate Best and potentially Lucas coming back on our left edge either. We’ve been leaking tries in bulk there the last few weeks. Those 2 and Sharpe defending 3 in probably makes us about 20 points better defensively.

I just saw a stat where we are 16th in left edge defence. Yes Marzhew has never been a great defender, but teams have been absolutely tearing us to shreds with the different centre and back rower combinations we’ve been throwing out. Having Best and Lucas back will be huge.

The Mooney bashing is wild, he has out performed Saulo all but twice, he is 23 so is extremely young for a first grade prop let alone a starter, he has less than 50 games, when we bought him everyone was talking about “potential” now everyone is expecting him to be top 3 prop in the game?.

If anything Saulo should step up being 27 and having over 80 games, to be honest I’d be looking to get rid of Saulo, buy a first grade prop, push Mooney to the bench and call it a day to let him develop naturally instead of tossing him as a starter and letting the chips fall.

Saulo is about peak for a prop and he isn’t doing an awful lot, so yeah I’d be telling him he can go for another club.

We could whinge and moan about a young Mooney, get rid him and having him bite us on our ***, like King and Barnett.

He is very much still in development, why are we so safe with our juniors, so much so people freak when critiquing them such as Hunt, but go ballistic when it’s a guy still in a developmental cycle in an extremely tough position nowhere near finished but not our junior.

Cant have it both ways, even now people target Mooney but don’t target Saulo, despite Mooney beating him in every stat barring defence, from metres, minutes and pcm all but twice… is it because Saulo is a junior?

Absolute joke

It is at least entertaining to see the wild swings from a great player, huge future to I can't believe we signed him, based on one or two games or even one or two plays, about players who are very young and largely in first grade because of injuries and/or a depth crisis at the club in their position.

The club's recent misses on Shiba, Simi and a few others should cause some pause.

We are expecting too much from our young forwards, those in very early 20’s are still at development age, especially the middle fwds.
Think Mooney has potential but should not be expected to lead the pack. We need JSaf and Frizell fit and healthy playing strong minutes with at least one on the field at all times as leader. Play them along with Mooney, Saulo and Hola

The difference between Mooney and Saulo is the amount of $ they are signed on.

Mooney was signed as a starter on eportedly $500k plus so we expect that value from him. Not living up to the contract yet.
I don't believe anyone has said get rid of him.

Saulo signed as a bench/backup on a low top 30 deal. Delivering about what you expect.

And Hunt is on a development deal as a back up.

Nothing to do with who is a junior or not.

What's most curious is that Cant and Mooney are the same age. One is a protected species who is 'still developing' and the other (Mooney) is castigated

To be fair, Saulo would be on peanuts

Mooney was reportedly signed on 500-600k
