NRL Round 26 - Knights Vs Warriors - 2:00pm Sunday, 30th of August - Go Media Stadium

Worth giving Nonu a shot?
Agree that ESL should have a run with first grade this week. Him and saulo. Maybe reduce or give Mooney a spell.
If the coach thinks Nonu is ready, I'd love to see it, but you very rarely see a guy who hasn't had a firstgrade pre-season get a shot.
Winter and Hagan both got some firstgrade preseason.

Jeezus all this rest talk and sending out the Cup side is ridiculous

We got smoked on weekend, hardly convincing against the titans either

We don’t need 2 weeks of sitting around and training against each other

And it’s not like we haven’t had a few players injured at training lately either

Best,McEwen,Saulo all had last injuries at training anyway

Doesn’t mattter so much on how results might go over next two weeks we need to fix our play, correct our efforts, get the mind to win win win, and as we will be in semis we need to take this opportunity to give it our best, a well played loss will satisfy but not quite as good as a hard won win

I look forward to the day when we see a game like this and think “great, a chance to measure ourselves against the best and go out there and take it to them”.

Dunno about the players, but people on here just freaking out about it and basically saying to forfeit! Does reflect the mindset of the team, at times, too.

I often think it with reactions to reffing on here too, have a moan, find an excuse. One day we’ll say “throw any setback you can at us, it’s not stopping us”.

Like the good teams do!

Don’t get me wrong making excuses of the obvious horrible refereeing in all games while talking about excuses is great but it’s also wrong.

I go on many other team forums and have a father that supports for the Roosters (good team) and a friend that supports Panthers (good team) and they all complain about the referees.

Players might not care (they clearly do with all the arguing they do to the ref) but fans do and in terms of how our team unless someone wants to interview them all I guess we will never know if they all blame the referees after a loss (sometimes extremely valid)

If every single team’s supporters blames the ref after a loss then maybe they’re not the problem. 🤷🏻‍♂️

And beyond that, who cares … life throws obstacles at you, you can have a cry, or you can overcome them.

Probably a good time to wheel out the old Kerry Packer truism:
“Don't get bitter, get better”
Maybe the general standard of performance of referees, touch judges and the bunker is just so bad that every team / supporters sees them as the debacle they have become?
If so, maybe we should expect this rot to continue during the finals and just get on with it?
Thoughts?

Well it’s been 25 rounds, so I wouldn’t expect much to change now.

Referees cop it off every supporter group of every code in the world. I don't think nrl refereeing is that bad to be honest.

One thing I can't cop is people wanting to throw the bunker out after one bad decision. I reckon it would take doing it for one weekend before everyone saw the worth of it. It clears up a couple of hundred iffy decisions every week and sometimes makes a contentious call. I'd rather see a close decision maybe get called wrong then seeing an absolute howler not being allowed to be overturned after a replay. Do we really want to see guys awarded tries after dropping the ball from thy height when a quick look at the replay confirms just that? And after going through many iterations of how decisions are made, I reckon we have it spot on right now. Ref makes the call on the field and the bunker looks at everything (in try scoring situations).

Yep rest all the key players for sure! In fact, pull the entire first grade team! I reckon we should not only not send the A team out, we shouldn't even send the B team! We should go to the local Games Workshop, find the wimpiest looking nerds we can find, and tell them to go out there in our colours and not even play, just lie down, curl into a ball and cry! Have our new players tell those scary Warriors brutes that they'll suck their ****s if it means they won't hurt them! That's what I want to see from my team!

That is what a lot of you sound like to me. Good grief.

A genuine contender ramping up for finals, everything to play for for both teams... it's as good as getting extra finals experience. If we want this team to do anything in the coming years it's the kind of game they need to learn how to win. There's only one way to learn.

I’d rest anybody with a muscular injury. We don’t need an overuse type injury - season ending.

Other than that, I think we could do with blowing a few cobwebs out, working on our combinations and genuinely testing ourselves against a top opposition, especially working on our defensive shapes against a decent attack.

There’s always a possibility of a suspension or injury - that’s footy I guess.
(I hope I’m not taunting the footy gods here).

Depending upon how the game is going - we have 6 on the bench to choose from. Perhaps we are a bit strategic with who we have on the bench this week. But it’s dangerous whenever you’re going into a game without the intention to win it.

I know a clubs focus is FG - but our Cup team also deserves a fair crack at their competition. Fosters a positive club environment.

I’d also be having a chat to Croker. Just seeing if he needs anything. Does he need a bit of a break to freshen up? Does he need his minutes adjusted this week?

He was deadset emerging as a smokey for a PM’s Australia jersey (if we are doing that this year?). But last few weeks, his form has settled a little.

Getting him right for finals is important.

other than that, getting some minutes in Saulo* and Safs is important.

*if we see him getting a bench spot. Otherwise do we just stick with Safs, Mooney, Hopwood and Crouch as our prop rotation. Aside from Safs, they’ve had a lot of minutes the last few months so should have good match fitness moving forward.

Honestly it's the NRL/referees bosses that are the problem. Refereeing fast paced professional sports games is really hard and most of the top refs do a good job. But stuff like massive inconsistency in decisions, eg waving your hand vaguely near a catcher is a penalty for a few weeks, then you can shoulder barge the catcher off the ball for a few weeks and it's fine, then there are random soft disruptor calls again a few weeks later... that's an edict from on high. They are making the decisions they're being told to make, and when you read the guidance for what does and doesn't constitute a "disruptor" or "hip drop", it's clear as mud. Anyone would make mistakes.

When you watch some of the referees who do NRLW or NSW Cup games it becomes clear pretty quickly that refs like Ash Klein, Adam Gee and Wyatt Raymond and all that are actually really good (the touchies are pretty shocking though lol). The lower grade refs not only get basic stuff wrong constantly but they make weird "no feel for the game" calls that can basically decide games. Constantly.

Yep if there's a "resting" call I'd be okay with, it's this.

I think he's still gotta play but they should consider finding a way to shield him from the opening going because it's not just that he's struggling to carry the ball, his defensive work rate has dropped off massively.

Problem is with Friz out, there's not an obvious alternate starter at lock.
