Growing up in NZ, Winfield cup was never on our TV's until one sunny Sunday afternoon a grand final between Balmain and Canberra was shown and I was hooked.

We had no Warriors back then so Newy had Stewart, then later Schuster. So I followed you blokes. But any team that had New Zealand players got my support too.

I’m pretty sure I saw Sam Stewart amongst the old boys on old boys day from TV. So I wonder if he still lives in Newcastle.

Very similar experience to me, except I first watched a few years later. 1992 I began, and loved the Knights jersey and their run to the finals that year ... and found the game so much more entertaining to watch than union (although union wasn't quite as boring back then as it is now).

1995 and the Warriors came around, but I was too much of a Knights supporter by that stage to change allegiance!
