Looked like the obvious play to pass back to Ponga to me, I haven’t rewatched it, but he’d have raced away to score untouched. Just bad luck the pass got knocked down.

As much as we deserved the win, I’m glad the Sharks killed our finals hopes today. Saves us from watching their sub-par football in the hope they make the finals in the coming weeks when we clearly don’t deserve to be there.
If we don’t fire in the first 5 rounds next year, I hope AOB is shown the door. We do not have a bad team on paper and we should not be dishing up some of the crap we have seen this year.

so stupid that they can't rule on players being blatantly offside. Ref too busy watching "blockers" than seeing the blokes 5m offside. Be way offside at the most important moment in the game, the ref won't call it because they too scared to, and bunker can't rule against it.

Well that is ridiculous, they can rule offside when a kick is involved, or as we recently saw with a kickoff etc.
OB going to get fined anyway, he should have unloaded fully and blasted that ref failure.
Crossland sin binned for flopping on and delaying the game right before half time, I guess ruled preventing a scoring chance, yet Cronulla allowed to be blatantly and deliberately offside to block out field goal attempt is play on!
I get they don't want to be the focal point by blowing a game deciding penalty but there has to be a line drawn. They didn't mind being the focal point blowing 2 game denying penalties with the blocker penalties, and neither of those really blocked anybody.
Yep they rule offside anytime a players slightly offside during a mundane period of the game, yet in literally the most important moment in the game when a players well and truly offside, nope.

Yeah he seemed like a coach under pressure to me. Taking some heat off himself by lashing out at the refs.
To be fair he did have a decent crack at the refs and Graham annersley. Speaking about the field goal attempts he said Graham will find a way to dress it up which was a profesional way of saying he will make some ******** reason to justify the onfield decisions .

He doesn’t normally have a go at referees, the decision on Phoenix yesterday was pretty outrageous given how happy NRL refs are usually to let cynical penalties go. The blockers decision I think as well was just plain wrong. Mat Croker was in front of KP but nobody was impeded. I reckon Sutton only gave it because we had 2 players there and it looked bad.

Agree the ref decision was poor, however we were worse. We made 13 errors and failed to capitalise on Cronulla's 17 errors. We missed 44 tackles as well. We clawed our way back into the fight but couldn't stay disciplined.
Surprised in teams performance yesterday. Didnt think we'd be in with a sniff, even without Trindell and Hynes. As expected we gave them the game when in front and couldn't just control the ball and kick long.
Anywho, whilst I can see us winning last 3 games its been a crappy season and i'll be hoping for a different mind set from coaches and players going into next year. Lots of player movement over the preseason I imagine too.
Specila mention to McCarthy, I didnt see his opening 15mins, but I thought he defended quite well afterward and handled Ramien quite strongly in one on one tackles. Well done to him. Should get some good confidence out of that game

Yep, we just needed the bare minimum of completing our sets in the final 20 minutes and we’d have won pretty comfortably, that’s the fact of the matter. We kept inviting Cronulla back into it and they were good enough to take the chance.
Only got ourselves to blame for letting that one slip.

Glad to see AOB nut up and blast the officiating, it’s been horrible all year and I honestly don’t think it’s the fault of individual referees. It’s the current administration and its ethos of constantly making rule changes and changing rule interpretations, as well as the bizarre inconsistencies and just total lack of common sense. PVL and Abdo are the biggest culprits of course but Annesley is right up there with them.
You’ve got rule changes designed to undermine the fabric of a game I used to love, to turn the sport into more of a pure fitness test, leading to way, way more injuries, so every game is like 50% NSW Cup players, and where a team particularly slammed by injuries will find it way harder to keep themselves in a game. Imagine Johnathan Thurston taking control of a game to lead his shattered side to victory now by playing a smart pressure game & forcing a bunch of goal line dropouts. You can’t, can you? Dropouts are worthless now. “Pressure” and “control” are no longer adjectives in a half’s arsenal - now all pressure and control is exerted by whichever team has forwards with bigger gas tanks who are better at wrestling.
Then whichever games aren't boring blowouts, you always feel like the referees had as big a role in deciding the game as the players, who are clearly confused by the rules themselves given the captain’s challenge on the field goal blockers.
They tell us that’s it’s one way over the off season - every player has to be an eligible ball receiver rather than set up in front of the ruck to block, and those players can’t impede defenders - but now apparently we have this bizarre standard where I guess the field goal kicker has to have no teammates within cooee of him but the defensive team can have their own field goal blockers about five metres offside. Where guys can do stuff they see other teams do all the time, like hold down in a tackle until time expires for the last two seconds of a half, but guess what, NRL HQ has decided to crack down on that now with no warning (holding down in a tackle for seven seconds after a line break when there’s a clear try scoring opportunity isn’t even a penalty of course).
This is the least footy I’ve watched in a season since one of our players was paralysed on field and I struggled emotionally with watching games after that that year. It’s not a refusal to acknowledge your own team’s failures to point all this out, to say that we’ve gotten to a place where common sense need not apply. Where anyone who actually understands and loves footy is out and a bunch of bean counters and spreadsheet nerds who’ll tell you “the graph says there are more tries now therefore the game is more entertaining” are in, led by a “colourful racing identity” who can’t even pronounce “rugby league”.
All this should definitely improve with two more teams further watering down the standard of play of course.
