NRL Round 23 - Knights Vs Raiders - 2:00pm Sunday, 9th of August - GIO Stadium

I personally don’t think one of either the “soft” or “hard” coaching style has really worked, be to hard and players get pissed off and be to soft and players know they can do what they want as you don’t have the balls to do anything, like Jason D at the Rabbitohs who was so soft the players ran the club.

I think you need the ability to do both, to be able to put a arm around them and be able to spray when needed

Just watching our 2 veterans today, I think Gags is pretty much done as an NRL centre. He looks old and tired, and gives away too many soft penalties. His defence is fair at best, and his best days are well behind him. Not resigning him is the right call by POS.
Tyson Frizzell is looking like he could probably go around again though. I think our young pack can still use him as a mentor and leader, and also teach Nuikore about team culture.
If they can get him signed for a decent amount, he,d be a perfect bench middle for next year, playing 25-30 minutes a game. He still has a big motor, but has lost some leg speed with age, and would be more dynamic in short stints.
Let me say, there is no criticism here. Both Gags and Friz are Knights legends, and warriors of our club who have both shed blood for the Knights in bad times, and good. They deserve to be in the Knights Hall of Fame ( if there is one).

Completely disagree. Gagai put young down the sideline 2-3 times and scored a crucial try which he ran 70m to the other side of the field to score after putting young down the sideline to make it 24-24. If gagai wasn’t 35 you wouldn’t be saying this. You allow his age to cloud your judgement of his performance. To say he is done as an nrl centre particularly after that performance is absurd

Additionally, he is 5th in the entire comp for tackle breaks

He is also upded the anti in defence late in the game. The set canberra made 16m gags was running out of the line and launching himself at the raiders

I think Bellamy and Bennett are hard nosed guys that don't tolerate a lot, and have a bar that you have to meet, but yes sometimes they know when to man manage guys and realise sometimes not everyone is the same.

I've always thought that other successful guys like Ivan and Robbo etc implement a bit of both, and are more the modern version compared to the older guys.

Honestly reckoned he targeted Horsburgh deliberately to get that reaction/penalty/eventual sin-binning, too. That was a very experienced play against a noted hot-head … if he doesn’t hang on to Horsburgh’s leg and create something out of it, it’s play on.

yeah exactly! Small things like that go unnoticed but he does that often to try and lift energy of the team.

I am not saying there are not exceptions but aside from Bellache, Wayne and Nathan who lasts a long time, you could argue Wayne aside from his Broncos stint for last 20 years isn't coach who hangs around for long usually 3-4 years.

There's reason to be optimistic about Holbrook. AOB inherited a top 4 forward pack and in all but one season we drastically underperformed expected points scored. Holbrook inherited a roster with holes that meant even the most optimistic Knights fans had us pegged about 11th at best. We are losing the arm wrestle in the majority of games, which was always AOB's excuse for losing.

You can create any story if you pick and choose the stats you use.

He also missed 5 tackles in that game, had 1 error and 1 handling error, gave one penalty away and ranks 4th for most missed tackles in the comp the one error and handling error I can forgive because well people make mistakes but just throwing these stats to put perspective for people that want the full picture of the good and the bad

The claim made was that he is past it as an nrl centre. Being 4th in missed tackles does not mean he is past it, it indicates a weakness defensively though his player statistics clearly indicate the positives far outweigh the negatives.

All players have strengths and weaknesses.

KP made 6 errors yesterday. Is that an unforgiveable stat? For someone with your username, that should be pretty concerning.
