NRL Round 13 - Knights V Bulldogs - 8:00pm Friday 31st May - McDonald Jones Stadium

….,,My opinion KPP isn’t as good as Frizell or Lucas, has not quite reached the hype surrounding him, I have been a bit disappointed.
We missed Best today…,,
I actually think KPP is being completely misused at this stage and is being wasted as a battering ram with no support for his true value as an offloading back rower in traffic??

He is a real talent that can make metres and is solid in defence but his ability to offload to a lurking Armstrong, a nippy Brailey or even a trailing Ponga has not been factored into an otherwise vanilla, predictable and easily handled one dimensional attack.

We lapped them by 100 last season and in two games this year the Dogs have completely got in our heads. Mental midgets.

is it just me or should a bloke with a strong offload and a natural right hand carry be on the right side?

Yes he and Lucas need to swap sides. Much easier for him to offload on the right because there will already be a player outside him. On the left he’s reliant on someone trailing on the inside to get the ball away.

His got that natural underarm offload ( think ben kennedy) you want your reciever taking that sort of offload on the inside of his run, it also gives him the option to throw the "gidley" style flick on the outside if you move him to the right. But aob is defense first minded so im assuming the current way they are lining up is more to do with their defensive strengths.

KPP might be underwhelming if you were expecting him to walk in and be a superstar but he'd be the first name on the teamlist for mine. Defence is more than solid. One day he'll be in a side that has a clue how to use him in attack and I hope he's still in a Knights jersey when it happens. Eerily similar to how I felt about Dom in 2022.

Still no idea why Armstrong is never within cooee of him when he runs. It's his one strength in attack and they've got him standing out wide pretending to be Ponga despite not being at all similar as players, and even when they do look to spread it they don't wanna give it to him. The way they're using him makes no sense. He should never be further than 10m from the ball in attack.

To our credit armstrong was hanging off him more so in the second half after being mia in the first, just couldnt get a ball away to him. think the dogs did a really good job on him all game.

He’s definitely been told to put the offload away. There were times today where he had very clear opportunities to offload and you could see his first thought was to do it then the coaching override kicked in and he tucked the ball under his arm. Very frustrating.

Exactly. KPP is being forced to play AOB ball.

I love how naive we all were at the start of the year 'I can't wait until AOB gets some runners off KPP, he just offloaded 15 times I'm his first 3 games'.

This coach is truly not capable of anything more than getting his cheeks clapped 2nd week of the finals. We'd need an Joey esque halfback to force the creative structures everyone is screaming out for.

Cronk in the commentary box sounded exhausted while mentioning more than once that Armstrong should be hanging off KPP. It's truly just that simple and obvious.

Pryce being mentioned in the presser. I've watched Cup, Pryce has been utter shlte. Imo he is not a half.

But I reckon O'Brien is still wrong to refuse to use him. Wtf is the downside he is so afraid of? Sincere question, did he not see what we were missing today? We've got creative and lightning quick players languishing in Cup while OBrien coward picks Cogger to make the least amount of errors next week.

1. Sharpe
6. Pryce
7. Hastings

We're going to lose anyway, so why not give these blokes a go to see what FG does for them. It worked for Armstrong.

Remember that Souths game that turned fiery a few years back. Was it JSaf that headutted in that game? I think it was one of the Burgess brothers?

Or was it one of the Burgess headbutting a Saf?

The "headbutt" was basically Jsaf brushing his headgear with his forehead. There was zero sign of any force or impact and the guy laughed while it was happening and didn't make any effort to avoid it, so he knew it was just a gesture.
Back in the day, when English players in particular put in vicious headbutts that broke noses and were almost impossible to defend yourself against because you had your hands full making a tackle, it was a very nasty part of the game and had to be wiped out - but brushing your forehead against the side of someone's headgear is not a vicious assault - it's a gesture that deserves a penalty and maybe a fine, but no worse than patting him on the head.
I don't know how they grade headbutts, but this is somewhere between lowest possible grade and was that even a "butt" if it had zero force behind it?

It’s something I’ve been thinking for a few weeks but with the wins it would’ve been abit knit picky but I wish our forwards would hit the line with more conviction and speed.
We have absolute athletes in our pack and few of them seem to not get out of 3rd gear when making a hit up or running decoys, I might be wildly wrong just something that I’ve been peeved by the past few weeks

Think Armstrong deserves another chance at redemption. He had a shocker though. I remember Dylan Edwards had the yips a few years ago. Was absolutely stinking under any high balls. Armstrong did enough the last few weeks, and some support running got him some tries. But his size is a concern, he finds grounds pretty well though and in broken play does well. On the flip side that performance was poor. With the contract rumours around, I think we probably give him another game or 2 to give us a better idea. Not following, but sharpe is probably 2 games back from injury now? Might need a hit out or 2 more before he’s ready to give it a crack.

Hastings is an organiser, but not much else. He’s always yelling orders and getting players in position. For what? He lacks creativity and his kicks have been bang average at best. Cogger was made look good in the system of Penrith, but not much creativity either. If there’s not creativity they need to be methodical and able to nail a plan. They don’t seem capable of this at the moment.

I’m starting to think it is a tactic not to challenge kicks. There’s been a few times, the kicks go up, our players get there and they wait for the player to catch, then they tackle for minimal gain. 80% of the time the kick or the chase is poor and we aren’t within 20 metres of the catcher anyway.
