NRL General Recruitment and Retention

Considering the NRL gave them no advantages despite the distance, I really don't mind what the Bears have done with limited options.

No marquees yet like the Phins, they'll likely need to develop their own, but it's a decent list from a standing start with Sorrenson signing and likely Talakai soon.

Those last few spots in the 30, though, that's going to require some real creativity.

Going to be interesting to see if PNG's effectively double salary (due to the tax-free status) can offset the need to live in a compound.

I wonder if Chammas will offer KP $1.5-2m to be the first Chief's captain?
Will the PNG players actually be living in PNG?
I thought they were going to be training and living in Cairns.

Either way the humidity is going to be horrendous.

At this stage, it's still Port Morseby. Operating out of Santos National Football Stadium.

PS. They're talking about resorts for players.

I think the Chiefs really need to get some sports psychologists on board....putting a bunch of fit young athletes in the lap of luxury, with everything done for them whilst expecting them not to play up and to be competitive in the NRL...IDK...seems like the Chiefs really need a good plan for how to develop their club culture.

Last plan I saw for the PNG team was they were going to build a village for them on a resort Island a short distance from the Port Morsby airport - basically sharing their Island with overseas tourists and workers only and being a short commute from the airport.

No one must want to live and work in the PNG? Lol

And I don’t ever want to hear anyone in the media media whining about unqualified former players getting office jobs and jobs for the boys ever again after this.

That actually sounds better than I expected.
Tax free wage.
Luxury resort (I assume it's free)
A young gun player could go there for a couple of years and set themselves up for life.
Sort of like a young tradie doing FIFO work to set themselves up.

Would be a lot easier to do before having children.
No resort/ housing wont be free, it breaches salary cap rules. Chammas confirmed this in an interview a couple of days ago.

Going to predict Bula ends up at the Bulldogs next year. Pretty sure him and Galvin are best mates. Tracey to centre.

On Xerri, going to say Storm sign him with the outside backs they're losing.

Storm have signed Dolphins winger Isaako for 2027 and 2028, huge upgrade on Meaney. Another winger that will probably kill it there too

Not having a go but that actually seems like a very un-Melbourne-like signing to me… fringe rep player who wouldn’t come cheap, and who’s 30 years old in a few months. For so long they’ve built their success on finding guys with sky high potential but who need a lot of coaching. I’m not sure Isaako has new levels to reach, he kind of is what he is at this point. They must be really hard up for goal kicking with Meaney leaving…
