Mitchell Pearce

I wasn't crazy about those kicks either but they did the job , we didnt see there back 3 go on many if any long runs and they are quite capable of doing so in a bit of space . They were also under pressure each time to take the ball cleanly which doesnt happen if the ball is kicked deep .
The more i think about it the more i like it , when we play the rooters it could be a good tactic to nullify Teddy because you dont want him having any space to run .

If the ball is kicked deep, and our kick chase is up to nrl standard, the whole team is put under pressure taking the ball out from their try line, 10m etc.

This tactic puts one player under pressure for one catch. Then they have pretty decent field position from there.

Ill wait and see how this tactic goes against some more potent opposition.

Fortunately he had it down pat after practicing it week after week after week after season after season
You can say what you like about Pearce . But he is good at following game plans to the letter . Whether you agree with the game plan or not is immaterial. Remember back in 2019 when we kept kicking for the sideline to nullify RTS .

One out running getting out of red zone is a game plan? We only ever put on a play when we get to the opposition 40. Midfield bomb game plans to teams like storm, roosters, riff will just show how far behind we are. Happy to be proven wrong though.

From what i saw they were 30 or so meters from there own line when catching the ball and under enormous pressure . They were then down one tackle and had no chance to run the ball or pass it.
Also out of Pearces mid field bombs we got one back because RTS was under enormous pressure and dropped the ball infact he never even got a finger on it and no one did any long runs from the rest , imo it worked well.
RTS is a pretty potent f/b and it worked against him Shek made about 150m or so from memory but i dont remember any of them being long returns from mid field bombs.
Mid field is a bit deceiving too as most didnt land mid field more like 25 to 30 out .

As it appears to be a coaching tactic why would green bring any variation? Surely he will put up those same midfield bombs.

Against the warriors, those mid field bombs were directly responsible for us over a number of set rotations getting pushed back on our own try line inviting the warriors to be ending their sets down our end and getting good attacking kicks in. The ref with his 6 agains didnt help either.

I think the good teams will love to be fielding kicks on the full from their 20 and 30m lines.

Anyway, its a tactic I guess we will continue to have to endure.

Maybe when Green comes back part of AOBs tactic is to start introducing variation? I don't mind Pearce bombing when we are in range and green kicking tactically for field position.

I don't know what AOB is thinking but for some reason I feel he is hatching a plan for when Green returns.

Green had an instant impact on changing our structures when he played last year.
He let Pearce do the majority of the work still, but also kept himself available to run an alternate play, and every now and then he called for the ball and ran a play that usually worked and no one was expecting.
I get the feeling that other teams were just looking at what Pearce was doing and forgot about Green a bit, which gave him plenty of room to make things happen when he decided to take control.

For all the Mitch knockers have a look at Manly yesterday. If we had DCE and his mate Foran we would REALLY have problems. Des may be the first coach sacked of 2021.

Their roster is a mess they don't even have a back up full back, I dont know how much say des has in the roster if its a lot probably time to move him on.

Mitchell Pearce reportedly linked with Tigers

I wonder if there is any truth in this story?
I personally don’t think it matters too much. We’re an ordinary team even when he’s playing. May as well re-sign Phoenix instead for cheaper and save some cap space in the process.
