Mitchell Pearce

Mitchell Pearce reportedly linked with Tigers

I wonder if there is any truth in this story?
The same person who wrote this story a week ago said Pearce to Sharks. What do you think?

If Pearce leaves, so be it. Use the money to find a competent half.

If he stays he needs to play second fiddle to Clifford, especially with kicking.

Did you see how much more time Clifford had taking kicks? Because he was standing deeper and has a bigger boot.

Pearce puts himself closer to the line, puts himself under pressure more, and cant get longer kicks in as he has to kick above the kick pressure or be charged down.

After losing games without Pearce, some comment on here that we miss Pearce, what do we miss about him exactly?

His leadership and experience, also he defends on the right side and kept that side pretty tight defensively.

Pearce for 2022 will give Hodgson time, then make the Ponga to 5/8 and Hodgson to fullback move.

Otherwise, with no Pearce for 22, we have to hit the market for another half we only want for 1 year.

Pearce brings competitive attitude. That is what he should stick to, leadership. Next year make him captain again. But let Clifford and Ponga run the attack.

Following year, make Ponga captain to coincide with his 5/8 switch.

The main thing we miss is leadership.
Pearce might not always have a great plan, but he always has a plan, and the guys know what they are doing.
He pulls all the elements together and gets the guys working towards a goal, rather than all waiting for someone else to do something.

8 Daniel, 9 Brailey, 10 Jacob, 11 Frizzel, 12 Fitzgibbon, 13 Barnett, 7 Clifford, 6 Pearce, 5 Hunt, 4 Best, 3 Crossland, 2 Young, 1 Ponga.
Bench.. Watson, Mann, Klem, Sue/King.
Thats one way of keeping Crossland in the side which id like to see , he has all the skills which would be a good thing for his winger. I also think Pearce would go well at 6 he loves running the ball, he has a good passing game and at the moment an ok kicking game he also defends well.

Who knows anymore. The fact that we are having these discussions with the roster we have is the problem.

We can’t blame injuries. Don’t forget how many we lost last season at full strength and the games we have pissed away. Some of decisions need to be made if we are to scrape into the 8

The problem with Pearce’s attacking game is the same as with a lot of our players - they’ve been guilty of trying to do way too much on their own. Pearce came into the comp with way above average athleticism and pace for a half and was able to beat forwards on his own often enough that he never really had to adjust his game to be a quality first grade half.

Clifford isn’t a super creative player, he’s a big body who runs it strong but doesn’t have great footwork, and he doesn’t throw those amazing bullet cut out passes you see from some guys. But because he knows his limitations, it’s gonna be easier for us to get him to play a specific role. He’s not the guy to provide the killer pass, he’ll be the one creating space. No coincidence that Bradman’s first try assist in weeks came after Clifford got the ball to him, with him switching sides of the field for that play. And yeah he took the wrong option on some kicks when we were chasing the game but when it comes to kicking for territory and possession he’s as good as anyone in the comp you can name. Overall though that’s the most high possession on-ball game I’ve seen from him in a long time, and being handed the reins in that way really seemed to suit his game. He’s the long term future of the club at 7 for sure.

From what I’ve heard filtering through about Bailey Hodgson, the club is very very confident in his potential. On that basis I’m okay with keeping Pearce for that last year in 2022 and giving Bailey as close to 30+ games in NSW Cup as possible, as Melbourne has done with all their fullback prospects. Then Clifford/Ponga halves from 2023 on with Bailey at 1.

Clifford talked in his recent interview about playing a lot with Ponga in the juniors and looking forward to playing with him again.
Obviously, I never saw any Cowboys junior games, so don't know what sort of combination they had, but it will be surprising if they don't have some plays they used to do as kids.
Clifford also talked of playing with Tuala, and you could see he was looking to make something happen there as well.
I don't really know what, but I expect to see some sort of play where Clifford and Ponga combine to make something happen.

Clifford/Pearce then Ponga fullback...i like it:))) just need them all fit for longer periods in the season, and a fit backline would be great aswell, lol

I’d read it if it wasnt written by Peter FitzSimons.
But happy for him that he’s found some peace within himself and he genuinely seemed to enjoy Newcastle and enjoy playing here and gave it a fair dig despite having Hodkinson’s athleticism and knees towards the end of his time here

For those with a SMH subscription, Mitch has given up alcohol, converted to Islam, married a French woman and now has a daughter!

Oh look good for him but he lost my respect when he did the dirty on my good friend with someone within the walls of the club.
