He is a great leader, he's always screaming at players when they're running trying to hype them up & keep the fire burning. At his best he competes for everything at 100 miles an hour. Maybe he is playing a bit injured, which is pretty commendable if he doesn't want to let the team down at this stage of the year. I think it's a pretty safe gamble to extend him & hope his form comes back. Remember he got like 5 man of the matches in a row or something last year, very close to dally m.

We are currently paying Pearce SOO winning halfback money.
If we offer him half that next time, no one else will match that offer, unless Nathan Brown wants to offer him a million a year to lead his new team - like he did here.
If Pearce wants a million next time, we should offer it to the current Australian halfback instead, because that's what a million a year should buy.

The only halfback worth $1m so far (Cleary) this year is already locked up for 5 years. Ones who are close to that (DCE and Moses) are also locked up for a while.
Then you are looking at guys like Ash Taylor, Shaun Johnson, Ben Hunt, and Michael Morgan who are worth no where near that amount. I have no idea how much Reynolds is on but I imagine both what he'd be on and what he's worth it's not close to $1m but not cheap either.
We could be doing way worse then Pearce, or re-signing him (for probably less then what he was on this current contract that was worth every cent taking into account everything).

Pearce is just way out of touch. He will come good. He’s still having a red hot go and that’s all you can ask. There isn’t too many players that can maintain an incredibly high standard week in week out. Thurston, Cronk, Smith etc. even Thurston went through a little slum and came good.

We should definitely re sign Pearcey. I think people have really short memories about him. In his first year with us he came 5th in daily m and missed half a season. And last year he went on one of the best individual runs of form in the nrl, probably since barba 2012 or even hayne 09. Obviously it came to an end but that could happen to any one if your coach loses the dressing room and gets sacked and the team implodes.
He has been a bit off the mark this year and short kicking has for a lack of a better word sucked. But who else do you get? No number 7 in the competition imo is consistent enough to be up the top every year.
Everyone said cleary was overrated last year, but this year he is amazing, moses got a spoon with the eels, keary wasn't wanted at the rabbits and people thought roosters were stupid to think he could replace maloney. Ben Hunt went from form half back in the comp to never being the same player. And Michael Morgan went from taking cowboys to the gf in 17, to 6 missed tackles against last year's Spooner (LOL)
With all that in mind I can cop Pearces constant kicks to the shins being his worst. I have a feeling he is due for a big back end to the season in the run to the finals.

The fact that we can win games and compete in games without Pearce and Ponga being our runaway best players in a game win or lose says how far we’ve come as a team. We aren’t relying on our star players even though they are usually amongst the best.
And learning how to defend has been a help too. And not automatically assume a team will score when they’re close to our line.
If Ponga is even able to be half as good as that Tigers game most weeks going forward then sheesh...

I see there is an article in the Herald today about Jaron Purcell playing for Wyong in the real NRL this year. Cooper Jenkins is playing for Maitland in the Presidents cup.
Both are playing second row, although Jaron has always been a lock for us and for NSW.
They can both still play under 20s next year, but i'll be surprised if they both don't do an NRL pre season.
