Knights Sponsorship for 2012

Tinkler must have the Newcastle business's phones running hot building up these sponsorships

He really doesn't wanna have to pay any of the sponsorship.

Great work

I spose if he can save himself $10 million he's got every incentive ...

I'll admit, that's why I'm holding off on buying the 2012 'heritage' and 'alternative' jerseys. I just know that as soon as I get them, they'll announce sleeve sponsors!

You'd think that if we don't have one for round one, it will only take a few weeks before some company realises its a good idea.

True, however I'm in town for Round 1, so will make my traditional trek to the stadium to visit the whatever-the-Knights-Kingdom-is-now-called store. I won't be able to walk away without buying something ... and when those jerseys are hanging there in front of me..!

I think it's because I live over here where League jerseys are uncommonly found in stores, and the last time I saw a Knights jersey for sale in Perth was at a Caterbury store (CCC) in 1997. If it was more commonplace for me, I'd be more inclined to be more patient and wait half the season for sleeve sponsors to come on board. Online is my only other option, but it's more fun buying them right there than online!

Just doesnt seem right to me that betting agencies sponser sports teams.

But more sponsers = more money = equals greater revenue = great financial sustainability = greater team value

So in that sense it's good.

Looks like your not the only one with concerns N90!

Former Knight urges caution on gambling sponsor
Updated February 24, 2012 06:38:19

A gambling consultant and former NRL player says a sponsorship deal between Sportsbet and the Newcastle Knights and Jets must involve the promotion of responsible gambling.

The Hunter Sports Group has signed a two-year sponsorship with the online bookmaker for its two clubs.

The deal includes stadium signage, online advertising and member promotions.

Former Knights player, Ashley Gordon is a committee member of the Federal Government's Ministerial Expert Advisory Committee on Gambling.

He says the clubs must honour their commitment to promote responsible gambling.

"You know a football club is trying to survive and gain revenue outside of their supporters," he said.

"My big issues with all of these gaming outlets is that they're promoting you know safe gambling, responsible gambling and harm minimisation strategies because while people are gambling more in this country they're not doing enough to combat the issues."

"I think it's got to work two ways, it can't just be about promoting the brand of the gaming outlet, it should also be promoting to the community the responsibilities that go with it.

"At the end of the day, there's a lot of revenue raised from gambling and a lot of these dollars have to go back to the community to those in need."

Personally I don't have a problem, as long as they pay up, unlike the last betting place that sponsored us!

Any word on a sleeve sponsor?

Apparently Dyson Vacuum Cleaners are keen to come aboard. CEO of Dyson stated that it is appropriate his company link with the Knights because up until last night they were of the belief that nothing sucked as much as a Dyson.

Read in todays paper the Sportsbet will now be featuring on our jerseys after signing a new 3 year deal worth over a million dollars.

Not surprised nib has gone back to the sleeves ... it was barely noticable where it was.

I'm a little concerned that this wasn't a major announcement!!!
