Knights player under investigation for overnight incident

I'm honestly surprised that professional sportsmen would drink at all. I sure wouldn't if I was getting paid that sort of money. I'd wanna be at my total physical peak.

Exactly. I had a schooner of beer last Thursday at darts, usually I don't do that, and it threw me right off. And I am not a professional.

Actually, the best I've ever batted at cricket I was still tipsy from a big night the night before.

I think it just relaxed me ... but then I did attempt a crazy single and ran myself out by the length of the pitch! haha

Without blowing this incident out of proportion I ask what deterrent is their for repeat offenders ? I mean look at Todd Carney. The fact that he goes from Club to Club tells these young blokes If they stuff up here there will be another Club/s waiting to swoop. Until the NRL steps in and makes it impossible for other Clubs to sign repeat offenders sacked from their contract I believe we will always have young blokes giving the drink a run.

I have always had increased stamina and performance levels after being on the drink.

Half of them chain smoke when they're out on the town

Going back a fair while but Jason Moodie was a pack a day smoker I think.

darts is an elite sport, durry in mouth and a beer in one hand. people in their peak physical fitness are the only ones who can excel at darts

After winning the Grand Final with Canberra Chica Ferguson ran straight over hugged his girl and got a ciggy off her , no one knew how old he was or how many a day he smoked but both were high numbers lol.
Most clubs are trying to steer they're players away from alcahol now , but Geez late teens early twentys and no booze at all that would have killed me in my day .
When all your friends are going out to have a good time and you cant drink with them just because your a public figure( of sorts),sometimes i think we expect far too much from our young guys .
As far as Pete is concerned he did'nt break any club rules, so he had a few too many and had an argument with a family member big deal who has'nt .

With the amount of training they do and the diet they would follow, drinking socially every now and then isn't an issue at all IMO. I'm actually surprised a lot of people frown upon this kind of thing (having a drink as a professional athlete). To put things in perspective, at the end of the day, these are young men just having a social life and getting away (even for just a night) from the grind of being a professional athlete and all the gruelling training that comes with it. I think people (media for the most part) are way too hard and in a word 'uptight' when it comes to professional athletes who are seen out on the town or having a drink.

Btw I'm speaking generally here, not in regard to the Mata'utia incident.

I watched some of the darts world champs over Xmas, and a huge pot belly almost seemed compulsory for these guys! Then it showed their wives ... I couldn't believe it, they were all stunners!!! And the prize money was only 200 grand, it can hardly have been for the money!

Oh well.

Well that's just my opinion on it, I never even had a single drink till I was about 22 anyway ... just didn't interest me at the time, and I was quite hardout about my cricket in those days.

Im glad it was nothing serious because i think Peter and his brothers will be a big part of this clubs future and i Hope all of them stick together at the knights. But i think he should of been fined by the club. I mean he was in such a state that he couldnt talk to the police properly and the seasons just kicked off.
"Police were unable to interview him at the time because of his level of intoxication when they picked him up"
It gives the club a bad name along with the game. If the club wanted to set an example of their alchol rule at the club they should of did it right here.

"While captaining New South Wales, Fittler was found unconscious and incoherently drunk in front of a police station, unable to communicate his name or address. After three hours he was sober enough to remember his address and he was loaded into a cab by police officers"

It can happen to the best of them.

Just my opinion ; But i cant see what harm him having a few too many ,being picked up then released after having an argument with a family member , has done to this club.
I know we all say it " OH NO ANOTHER INCIDENT" but really i think we take this discipline stuff a bit to far . We also seem to forget that this game was built on the back of Beer and the Working Man who drank it .....So someone please point out the harm to the club because i cant see it , he's no Danny Wicks thats for sure.
Its the same as punch ups on the field they are frowned on now , but every bloke i talk too loves them as i do ..........
ok into me lol

I agree laney, The nrl is so strict on these things because it sets a bad example for kids, but i think if you are watching footy on friday night with your young bloke and a fight breaks out you can enjoy it but after it, its up to you as the parent to tell your son not to do the same, like in movies just because they see criminals robbing banks its your job as a parent to teach them although they have just seen it done it doesnt mean that they should do it.

Yeah thats right fj182 thats a bit like my 10 yr old when he was in kindy he was asked what his favourite movie was , he said underworld and some parents freaked out and asked if he ever had night mares .
The answer was no because when ever he wanted to watch a scary movie we would show him the other disk with how they made it and that showed him it was'nt real and he's never had a nightmare or scary dream.
Its all up to what you do as a parent .

Well, personally I'd lose my job if I was arrested, so I see it as quite serious.
Oh what do you do James because when i worked for telstra i was arrested for outstanding Warrants for $4000 dollars worth of unpaid traffic fines and the bosses at Telstra lent me the money to pay it off .
When working for Harvey Norman as a storeman then warehouse manager , if i had been detained for being too drunk and having an argument with say my brother and was released when i sobered up my boss would not even know it had happened and as long as i did'nt miss any work they could,nt have cared less.
While at harveys we had a few salesman arrested 1 for hooning , he lost his car but not his job and i would like to see a boss sack me for something that happened not on his time, he would be in court before he knew it .

Oh detained and released but not charged wow that seems pretty harsh, if you were charged with something i would understand.
