The best wingers in the game play for they're country and in Aus SOO. Aku was dropped from SOO and left out of the Aussie side because of the defects in his game that makes him far from being the best winger in the game. Allthough i think he is the best ball running winger in the game , you need more than ball running in your game to be the best.

(Aku is branded by people who only watch highlight reels from big games as a poor defender and poor under the high ball) Personally i think this statement is a bit insulting to everyone that thinks he has a problem under the high ball or with his defence...Besides that the BIG GAMES is where you will be found wanting the most and going by that statement there must be a highlight reel of his mistakes in big games .

Likiliki and Sau are centre's who most of the time don't have to worry about the high ball.
If Quinn was dropping them he would'nt have been a permanent member of Bellamys all conquering storm side ... Manu who cares, and Kevy has much better hands and thats why the rookie winger was given the f/back job when Boyd was'nt there instead of Aku.
Obviously Ricky Stuart thinks he's not good enough in that respct either or he would'nt have lost his SOO spot because you would'nt take it of him for the way he runs the ball thats for sure.
Also he's as good a ball running winger as anyone in the comp but Sheens did'nt pick him for the Aussie side so he must still have a problem and if he had it 4 yrs ago then its a big problem as he still has it .
I watched Matt Gidleys entire career and don't ever remember people saying he was a poor defender and he was picked for SOO and Australia god knows how many times so people could'nt have thought he was too bad.

I remember the odd game possibly even a SOO where Matt Gidley resembled a turnstile in defense.
 
Quinns been playing in the back row, no speed and i know his neck injury is costly for insurance... maybe why rosellas couldn't pick him up... Depth signing second tier cap cover, can't see him playing much first grade

Well you have a better memory than me because i don't remember him ever being bad defensively in any rep game and if he was he would'nt have been there long .
 
Much better fullbacks than slater, slater plays well is a structured set play type of game, doesn't do much when he doesn't have cam smith or cronk with him. Not in any way saying he is not a good player, I just dont think he is the best fullback in the game or even comes close to that status. brett mullins was a much better fullback than slater, IMO

Big call. Slater is out of control freakish when fit
 
Mullins was the best fullback of all-time for about two years, but due to injuries as much as anything else, he wasn't able to maintain that for very long.
 
Slater is freakish, but I just have not seen him do much outside of his structured team, i think he is a great player but not world class... just my opinion though.. he doesnt really have a side step just lots and lots of speed.

Slater is the first player picked for the Aussie side and you don't think he is world class your joking right .
 
He consistently stars for Storm, Australia and QLD, I dont know what more he can do to prove he's a world class player. One of the best of all time already imo.

I've been watching the game for over 50 years and I really can't think of any fullback who was better than him. I can think of a few who were very good but Slater would be the best. With his speed he doesn't need a sidestep........... Have you noticed his swerve at top speed? He is also one of the best line defenders you could hope to see.
 
His only question mark is in big games, he does tend to choke under the pressure. 08 World Cup final, 09 NRL grand final, 2010 four nations final he made crucial errors, and origin one this year he was virtually kicked out of his job by Tate, he was going so poorly under the high ball.
 
Slater saves as many tries as he scores. As a fullback there's him then daylight. The only reason I can find to be filthy on him is the fact he doesn't live at Mayfield and play for the Knights.
 
Slater is a great player, but i'm starting to wonder if maybe a move to the wing might give him some form. I honestly can say Barba won't be as good in 2013 as he was this year, much like Hayne in 2010. A good burst of form, but struggles to find form again.
 
Slater had been down on form since Origin 2 because his injured knee never got to fully recover.

A move to the wing would be crazy!
 
Slater moving to the wing is a great idea! Especially if it's when Newcastle are playing Melbourne. :lol:
