Knights Launch New Jerseys *Pictures*

Then I guess there's not much Kooga could have done about it. It was all about Newcastle trying to confirm things with sponsors.

Missing out on a 'few' sales over Christmas is probably being a bit soft. Although I do agree that most jerseys will sell off closer to the season, if we do get off to a good start it might encourage some more people to buy one.

Oh, and thanks for typing that up (assuming you did). :)

Which is probably fair enough, given the amount of money Coal and Allied and NIB put into the club sponsorship wise. You'd just wish they'd do it earlier.

True. I've read somewhere that Peter Wynn (of Peter Wynn's Score) wanted the manufacturers to release jerseys sans sponsors, which, in the interim, would've been alright, I've seen places like Best and Less sell jerseys minus the sponsors ages aho.

I scanned it in actually. ;)

I don't think it's too much of a problem, I would never think of getting a new jersey for Christmas! And it'll still be better than our last new jersey, didn't they only go on sale in 2005 right before Coal and Allied signed up as our sponsor? So well into the season on that occasion!

Thanks for the article Dan!!! :D

I really feel both the Knights and you guys have missed the essence of the problem
Talking about sponsors and sales is a soft cop out of the real issue...Our jersey sponsors (nib, coal and allied and hunter old) have not changed in design or name for the season, so why has it taken so long...It sounds like laziness

But what really cuts me is that think of the young kids faces to get a brand new Knights jersey on Christmas morning, i know that kids i work with absolutely thrive on their footy clubs jersey and getting it for Christmas is just the most awesome thing.
I think that is what we missed out on..I am very disappointed in Burrastons view of "well who cares we missed a few sales big deal" Its like saying we arent the peoples club n e more, we are just any run of the mill NRL business....

It is little things like that which defines a club, and gosh its disappointing to hear that the fans buying jerseys and supporting the Knights are just "sales" to the Knights now...

I thought I little more effort would go into getting the jerseys out on time for Christmas...and the rubbish about nothing could be done cause of sponsors... We have had since Rd 26 in September to get the sponsorship organised.... It is not acceptable.

What are you supposed to give to the young kids for Christmas? an IOU for a Knights jersey when Kooga decides to get it out? Its sad....

And the fact that over and over again we have reiterated that we wouldnt buy one or we will wait for the price to go down... That just isnt typical...I mean people (including myself) save for these things, new jerseys and the rest...

Its called passion and a whole heap of adults have missed out this Christmas...without even considering the kids who were looking forward to it

Yea in terms of that, it is a real letdown, but i guess they did all they could to try and get it out.

well it still sounds like they are trying to get the best product out there for the fans and the are giving up finacial gain in order to do so.

+ i think that most yound kids who desperately wanted a knights jersey for christmas wouldnt even realise there is a new one coming out. I know that when i was 10 and got my first knights jersey in 2000 for my birthday (which is just after christmas) i had no idea that a new one was comin out the next yr. I didnt even care when i found out about the new jersey, as long a i had something to show my support.

and even if the knights released a jersey now that wasnt exactly right how would the people who bought it feel when it was changed a month later. i dont think many people bought an authentic jersey at the start of 05 when there wasnt even a sponsor on it, they waited till we got a sponsor to buy it

RBNEWC, it's not Kooga's responsibility to set the date for issuing kit to the shops. The club will set all of the deadlines from design, to approval, through to manufacture and release.

However, I do agree with you about the club's attitude to things like this. I've already vented my spleen about the website so I won't drag all that up again, but this is similar.

The club seems to have forgotten that it cannot survive without support from fans. If it continues to treat its fans in a worse way than the other NRL clubs treat theirs, the fans will vote with their feet and dollars.

I think it's a sad fact that sport is viewed as nothing more than a business and the grass-roots fans are the ones who get shoved down the order of priority.

the kids know Johnno

they know more than us, and the sponsors arent an issue for them

they want the same design than the players, they dont care about sponsors

Hasn't it been that way since smithy came in and demolished the team? lol.

When I was a kid I always wanted the right sponsors and everything on my top, I wanted it to be exactly like the players ones.

Me too. I can't stand the 'supporters' one with just the logo.

I have read a few of your posts and feel obliged to jump in.

I think the points made by a few other posters are valid, everyone wants the jersey to look EXACTLY the same as what the players are wearing. Kooga could have brought the jersey to the marketplace without sponsor logos and released it in October, leaving a whole bunch of fans (the ones who got in earliest) with a jersey that would not have been as per the playing strip.

Left with the choice of producing an inferior garment early or the correct garment late the latter was chosen. The 'corporate' decision would be to produce the jersey without correct logos and take advantage of pre Christmas sales. This would make Kooga money but leave those fans who got in early short changed. This is exactly what happened last year with the back sponsor.

Happy New Year everyone!
